Brooks Glycerin 8

'Solid, no nonsense neutral shoe'
Strengths:
Great (firm) cushioning
Fits really nicely - snug but not restrictive
Stable
Durable
Weaknesses:
None
Overall:
First pair of Brooks and really like them. I'm a bigger runner who needs a firm, durable shoe with a little stability and these really fit the bill. Seem to be lasting a long time. Can just chug along without even thinking about my shoes/feet. Will buy again. Haven't noticed any variation in cushioning from the 'adaptive' DNA cushioning but suspect that's just marketing hype. Looks and feels similar to Asics Gel and seems to work fine though.

'Great shoe - evolution of a proven class leader'
Strengths:
Great fit, now lighter than previous models. Cushioning plate is same since version 8, but the 11s use a new midsole foam and rubber connecting posts (rather than plastic) which means there's a much softer/springier feel. Previous models could feel a little hard.
Weaknesses:
Not much. Firm cushioning and perhaps 'too much shoe' for lighter runners but for the target audience - big, neutral to slightly overpronating runners - it's hard to fault it. Expensive, but then £20 extra over the lifetime of a shoe is hardly extortionate.
Overall:
Great shoe. Probably the best of the high end neutral shoes; firmer cushioning than the marshmallow type neutral shoes (Vomero, Nimbus etc.) with great stability and durability. Best version of the Creation for some years.

'FABULOUS - FAST, LIGHT AND VERY COMFORTABLE'
Strengths:
Fit, weight, cushioning, stability when you need it, cost.
Weaknesses:
None - well, they're a good looking shoe painted horrible colours....
Overall:
An absolute revelation. Almost impossible to run slowly in them - they're light and fast, like running in well cushioned slippers ! Make you realise how clunky and slow many other running shoes are.

Seem to encourage you to run more efficiently and be lighter on your feet. Fantastic.

Please Nike, don't screw them up....

'SUPERB UPDATE - GREAT SHOE'
Strengths:
Wonderful fit, great cushioning, durable and stable (for a neutral shoe).
Weaknesses:
None
Overall:
Wore versions 8/9 (same midsole/outsole but different upper) and thought they were ok, but not great. Cushioning was too firm and upper fit was only so-so. This new version has fixed these problems and I think these may be the best shoes I've ever worn in 15 years of running. Fit is perfect, cushioning is still firm but not too much so. Probably best suited to heavier runners, they are also very stable without being loaded with stability features. Difficult to see how they could be improved.

'GREAT SHOE - BEST VERSION YET'
Strengths:
Fantastic fit, asymetric lacing really works, opens up forefoot to make it nice and wide. Heel fit much improved. New solyte midsole is great - lovely and soft with good rebound. Wonderful top of the range cushioning shoe; easily the best shoe I've worn in many years of running.
Weaknesses:
None at all. Some may say cost, but work it out over the lifetime of the shoe, miles of happy (pain free) running and the ability to find bargain prices on the internet.
Overall:
Impossible to fault.

'APPALLING UPDATE TO A GREAT SHOE'
Strengths:
Same midsole/outsole as version 8
Weaknesses:
New upper is awful - irritates the feet, tongue can't sit centrally, cheap and nasty !
Overall:
Version 8 of the Creation was awesome - great fit, very cushioned and durable new midsole (Infinity Wave). Wore 2 pairs back to back with no issues, no pain in my legs, absolutely wonderful.

Mizuno tend to bring out a completely new shoe (version 8 in this case), then leave the midsole the same for the next version (9), changing the upper only. This time they've got it completely wrong - the new upper is an attempt to make the shoe move with the foot, but it's a horribly cheap, nasty, botched attempt. Essentially just a big strip of elastic down one side of the foot which pulls the upper out of shape and irritates the foot. Absolutely awful ! Will be buying more version 8s and hope they sort it out for version 10 !

'ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL NO-NONSENSE CLASSIC NIKE SHOE'
Strengths:
Great combination of Max Air in the heel and Zoom Air in the forefoot. Same last (and hence fit) as the Pegasus, durable, stable and very reasonably priced.
Weaknesses:
None.
Overall:
A shoe that has a long heritage in Nike's line - in many ways this is the classic shoe they built their business on. Original Pegasus had the same configuration of PU heel and EVA forefoot but doesn't any more. Forerunners also include Air Max Triax then Air International. PU is rare these days but gives a wonderful 'ping' in the ride, makes the shoe very durable and suitable for runners of all weights. Great fit, great cushioning, stable. For me at least, pretty much the perfect shoe and strangely one you hear little about. For my money much better than the Pegasus or Vomero.

'STUNNING'
Strengths:
Fantastic fit, superb cushioning. Fit is a little roomier than earlier version, forefoot pretty much the same as before but with new infinity wave in heel. Feel firm underfoot, not at all pillowy but after running my legs can tell the impact has been soaked up very well.
Weaknesses:
Pretty expensive and horrible colours.

[Update 02/04/07] Been running in these a while and they are softening a bit, but still very firm. Getting a little knee pain which is worrying. Fit is also very roomy compared to Version 7. May look for something else....

Overall:
Hard to see how they could improve on the Creation 7 but they have. Maybe too firm for smaller, lighter runners but for big, neutral people (like me !) they are top notch.

'GOOD SHOE'
Strengths:
Heel cushioning is superb, very firm but protective. No knee/hip/back pain and I'm 16st. Midfoot & forefoot fit good.
Weaknesses:
Forefoot cushioning not great and fit could be improved - heel slips a fair bit.
Overall:
Pretty good. Wore the Creation 6 and not sure this is much of an improvement overall, although the new heel does cushion well. Improve the fit in the heel and give the forefoot the same 'ping' the heel has and this would be a great shoe.
