Saucony Grid Type A4
Posted: 01/07/12
'Lightweight, comfortable and lovely grip. '
Strengths:
Grip. Fit. Lightweight. Comfortable (assuming you have narrow feet).
Weaknesses:
Holes in the sole. I am assuming these are for drainage or something, but the effect is that I always end up spending time picking out little pebbles, sand and mud from them. Often, tiny pebbles make a very annoying voice against the road whilst running.
Colour. I use the women's version, and when I bought them I could only find fluorescent yellow. I don't like drawing attention to the fact that I am wearing racing flats (I am an average runner of average weight so I always feel a little funny about gear made for fast runners).
Overall:
Does the job well. I only wear them for races due worries about wearing out the grippy outsole and time spent picking out little stones after each use.

I've seen comments about lack of cushioning, but for me there is plenty. Have used them a couple of times during my pregnancy, and even then my feet were comfortable.

Merrell Trail Glove

'My favourite pair of shoes (women's Pace Glove). '
Strengths:
Lightweight. Durable. Good fit for narrower feet. Looks nice. Machine washable. Comfortable.
Weaknesses:
Poor grip in winter.
Overall:
Used them for approximately half of my runs for more than a year and they are not starting to wear out yet. Fits my feet perfectly (I have narrow heels so this is an unusual luxury). Brilliant for travelling (packs down small and works well for walking, trail-running and shorter road runs). Like wearing them when I am not running as I can move my feet as if only wearing socks. Look nice as well. Gone through machine wash many times, and still no problems. My ankles are pretty weak, but so far I have never twisted them whilst wearing these, and I feel in control of where I put my feet. Not suitable for the winter (off-road or trails). The grip works well in the summer, but they are terrible in mud and on wet grass.
