Garmin Forerunner 405

'Wouldn't know how to train without it'
Strengths:
Track training progress easily
Easy to use,
Using garmin connect-is useful
Weaknesses:
Expensive for a training aid, although lasts a long time
Bezel can be tricky to use
Overall:
I've had this for almost exactly two years now and it is fantastic, and apart from replacing the battery on the HRM it is as good as new, charge is still good, and I use it about 4-5 times a week.
Had one problem with it but sent it back to Garmin and it was sorted straight away.
The only issue was that on hot/sweaty days the bezel would activate itself and make lots of beeping noises and keep changing screen. Recently I have discovered how to lock the bezel (press the two side buttons simultaneously) and now that problem is solved I am even happier.

Asics GEL-DS Trainer 16
Posted: 08/07/11
'Not what I was expecting'
Strengths:
High level of cushioning
Weaknesses:
Feel very bulky and not really like it could ever substitute a race shoe like the Asics DS racer 8.
Overall:
After 6 months of racing AND training in the Ascis DS-racer-8 shoe for both 10k and half-marathon distances I was looking for something for higher mileage as I get back in to marathon training over the next six months (aiming for sub-3 hr, current PB 3:11).
The reviews of this product are fantastic but I have been disappointed with this shoe. Although it's reasonably light for a high mileage shoe, it feels like a brick compared to the lightweight DS racer 8. It also feels very bulky in the heel. There is a lot of cushioning and so it may be quite comfortable but after about 100 miles in this shoe i still feel as though i am wearing flippers/wellies/boats compared to a racing shoe.
I will use these for training, but I couldn't ever imagine running a competitive race in these having got used to such a light a nimble trainer over the previous six months.
If you are used to lightweight racing shoes then i would certainly not recommend them, if on the other hand you have a very heavy shoe like the asics gel kayano then you may well be impressed.

I wish i had just bought another pair of DS Racer-8.
