High5 Energy Gel

'GREAT BOOST WHEN YOU NEED IT MOST, WORKS FAST'
Strengths:
Very quick acting and palatable without leaving a horrible after taste
Weaknesses:
Has to be taken with water.
Overall:
The only make of gel that I like not only the taste but the consistency of. Doesnt leave a gooey mess in your mouth.
Not as sickly and sweet as most.
My preferred method of fuelling on a long run. Easy to open and control how much you are taking in over a few miles.
Not as expensive as some

'AN EASY TO TRANSPORT RECOVERY DRINK THAT DOESNT NEED MILK'
Strengths:
As a drink that you can mix with water it is easy to carry to events as you can make it up with the post race water if you need to which means there is no waste
Weaknesses:
slightly chemically taste and expensive but so are most of the recovery drinks
Overall:
As a person who finds it impossible to eat for hours after a race or hard training session I find this invaluable to my recovery as it goes down easily and doesnt irritate my stomach. I prefer it to the other brands I have tried as it mixes easily with water rather than milk so can be made anywhere.
Only tried the chocolate one as not a lover of the other flavours

Garmin Forerunner 301

'AN EXCELLENT BIT OF KIT TO IMPROVE YOUR TRAINING'
Strengths:
All the information you can need on one screen. The interactive racing partner gives you an extra boost
Weaknesses:
Signal can be a bit iffy in particularly built up areas or in heavily wooded areas too
Overall:
The first bit of kit that I can actually see when running. converted to the 301 from the Navman and found its readability to be much better. Having never used a HRM I am now converted. It is so easy to show your progress and record your stats in an easy to understand way.
I certainly wont train without it. And it also stores loads of runs so it doesnt matter if you forget to download your run immediately. Has the added bonus of being able to charge it either from the computer or the mains too
