Just read a few posts, am I right in thinking some of us are going to run a 10k race together in the midlands ?

I live in Lincolnshire, so could possibly make it. Derby sounds good.

Hi Jenny,

I would increase your distance slowly and don't worry about time until you can complete the distance ( 10k ).

It took me ages to run 5k in under 33 min. same as you when I first started running i could not run for more than a minute.

I am sure there will be more advise on the way, keep us all posted on your progress.

Susie po, good luck for next week.

The only advantage with going off to quick is you put 'time in the bank', which i definitely needed on Sunday ! I always start to get slower after about 6 / 7 miles. Have done two other half marathons this year and ended up run walking the last 3 / 4 miles of both of them, so really pleased I managed to run all the way on Sunday.

Well done Kaybee, 30th very impressive.

Susie po, hows the leg ?

Finished the half marathon in 2 hrs 23 min 17 sec. took 25 seconds off last years time for a PB.            Only 25 seconds in a year, I must change my training plan !!

Went off a bit quick, must have been in 10k mode, first 2 miles in under 10 min. mile pace. Managed to slow myself down a bit after that but still did 10k in about 1hr 3 min.  Just got slower after that and did the last 3 miles in 11:30 min mile pace.

Half-Marathon Taper

Posted: 09/10/2008 at 19:34

I have a half marathon this coming Sunday, my 'taper' started after my 10 mile run on Sunday ( prior to that 10 miles on the previous Thursday).

A gym session on Tuesday

Ran 10k on Wednesday

Light gym session tonight

Then rest till race day.

My race times for a half marathon are very slow 2 hrs 23 min being my best.

Hope I haven't over done it ! !

Just been catching up on all the posts over the last few days.

My first half marathon was the 2006 GNR, got a charity place ( pledged to raise £400, managed to get £500). I ran in 2007, got a place through the ballot. So maybe not that hard to get a place.

Ran 10 miles on Sunday in 1hr 47 min.  best time I have done for 10 miles, hope I can repeat it on Sunday in my half marathon !

Received reject mag. for London Marathon yesterday. Going for a club place ( i think our club gets two places). May even go for  a charity place ( the amount they expect you to raise puts me off a bit , £1500).

Went out and ran 10 miles last night, in 1 hr 52 min. . Half marathon fast approaching, 12th Oct.

Next 10k early November.

Brilliant Debbie, great run, don't go we need your support.

My km split times where all over the place, due to the undulating / hilly course.

Best split at 9km 5 min 30 sec ( mostly down hill ) worst split at 5km 6 min 44 sec ! ( up hill ).

Beat previous PB by about 45 sec. , best time by far this year did 1 hr 4 min. about 3 weeks ago.

Well pleased with my time.

Thanks Susie.

Heavy rain before the start, stopped just at the right time, ideal conditions during the race though.

Get yourself out there Susie and enjoy your run.
