Marathon advice

Posted: 26/03/2008 at 20:58

Everyone is different and it sounds to me like you have a natural ability to run good times on little training. The only concern that I'd have is the risk of injury. But good luck and if you can get more training runs in then all the better!

Sadly I'm one of those runners that has to work hard, follow high mileage programs to get decent times but hey ho!

To the girl on the Moving Staircase Machine..

I have to agree with you on this one cougs.  From an effort point of view I saw a girl who lives locally to me jogging in the dark about this time last year.  She was pretty overweight, work dark clothing that hid her bits and she looked uncomfortable but kept at it.  I've seen her blossom over the last 12 months from a jogger to runner, she wears more practical gear now and her running style has improved no end along with her fitness and appears to have lost weight.  People like her really do get my respect as it can't be easy to get out there under those circumstances but she's done really well.

Bints at the gym with too much make up on and the latest gear who don't break a sweat, do lunch and tell people that they go to the gym everyday make me laugh and they hog machines that they don't know how to use.  Fortunately I'm now a member of a big gym with lots of treadys but I've been very annoyed on many occasions when the aforementioned walk for 45 mins at 5kmph and I have to wait!!! Yes runners should take precedence over bints like that!

can i wear an mp3 player on a 10k run

If you want to wear your mp3 player than wear it.   Wear it running, whilst naked in a field, on the loo wherever you want. Bugger these silly people with silly ideas of race atmosphere, safety etc. Many runners without mp3's are a danger to themselves and others.

Wear it with pride!

LOL Asics maybe not

Pear shape

Cougs do you use the personal shoppers in Debs?  I didn't know they had them!

I'm curvy but not a pear I don't think. My faves:

Boyfriend cut - GStar

Slim leg - Victoria Beckham - Wonderbra for the bum

Skinny jean - Diesel or a ridiculously cheap pair bought from H&M £15!!!! which are lush and a bit stretchy!

Heels with jeans always make the leg look slimmer I find although wouldn't wear heels with boyfriend cut.

Hi Smeagol and Asics

Yes Amsterdam isn't until October so hopefully the hamstring will behave and no further injuries will be had!  Off skiing next week so not holding my breath on the injury front

Hi all

I've been running steadily since NY to keep the fitness up and have just entered the Amsterdam marathon in October.  Couple of races planned over next  few months but my focus will be on hill and speedwork training before marathon schedule starts in June.

LFV keep strong.  My brother was a serving policeman also and we had his service at Gloucester cathedral last Thursday and he was such a popular guy that he filled it!  I was overwhelmed by the people who attended on the 27th December and I'm sure you will be filled with as much pride for Eddy and appreciation to all those that turn up on the day and I'm sure there will be many! My brother was also in the Royal Engineers so not only did he have police personnel in uniform at the entrance to the cathedral he had army service men/women in full dress also which also took me aback.

It will be a hard day for you but you'll have so many people around you that you'll feel their love and support for Eddy too.  Cry when you have to cry and don't feel that you have to be strong for everyone else as it is you that they are all trying to be strong for on they day.  All the best and give those cats a hug from a fellow feline lover! xx

June, New Year's Eve was so difficult without my brother who died 12/12/07 and I thought about you too when I raised a glass of champagne at midnight for my brother and Eddy!!!
