Ban mp3's/ ipods at mass events

Mrs Plod = iPlodder I like it!  So much so that I've modified it a bit and changed my name from Wolfy (Veggie) to Wolfy (iRunner) as above!

There is nothing better than a beer (large glass of Chablis for me) after a race, makes all the training and sacrifice even more worthwhile.

I disagree that a runner wearing an iPod doesn't need the support of the crowd.   That isn't the case at all but if those who are supporting don't want to support an iPod runner then I'm sure the runner will still do his/her best in the race with or without the support.

With regard to crowd support believe it or not some runners grow tired of it very quickly at some races.  When the runner is very focussed people walking into the road to slap hands or pass a piece of organge to them can be quite annoying for some.  Not me personally but it has been said.

BTW I bet Paula didn't want to speak to Wami on her run last week and she wasn't wearing a MP3, does that make her antisocial? Nope we all know that it doesn't.

I watched Paula's run in NY last night.  C.22 miles in she is there with Wami running hard, focussed and having a quick drink and she looked to her side to check before throwing her drink to the side.  Now considering there is bugger all behind her other than Wami (who was on the otherside) and a copper on his bike she had the respect to look first which a lot of runners do not (mp3 wearing and not and chucking cups/banana skins and clothing in peoples way is much worse than wearing a mp3)

I haven't the time to do it but I'd love to add up the number for and against on this thread and I think the against a ban are winning at the moment.  It would be sad for races to lose entrants just because they want to create an atmosphere. There will be no atmosphere at all if nobody turns up!

I'm still going to wear my ipod if I fancy and if the race doesn't allow it then I won't enter that race. Funnily enough I ran 14.5 miles today, one week after the marathon, without music (forgot to charge it up) and really enjoyed the run but that doesn't stop me from wanting the choice to wear or not to wear my ipod whilst running.

Yes I see where you are coming from Mikey.   Unfortunately running and me are like night and day!  I really struggle not to run daily and the taper time before a marathon for me is like having flu....I hate it!  I loved my run today and cannot wait to race again next Sunday.  Anybody choosing to chill and not run for a while enjoy the rest....I wish my brain/body could allow me to do that!

Well done on the runs rubble and asics.  I did a 14.5 miler today, with c. 5 miles uphill, which felt very, very good.  My hamstring was little tight from the off so I took the pace easy for a couple of miles and told myself to do a gentle run. However I was shocked to see that I did this in 1.55 despite 2 toilet stops and a stretch mid way. Feeling really good about this and my stomach muscle was sore but didn't hinder me! I have a flat 10k booked for next Sunday and intend to peg it to see what time I can achieve.

Those that are feeling less confident about running a week in, don't worry, I've been running marathons for quite a long time and find it easier if I get out pretty quick after a marathon otherwise my confidence really takes a battering. That doesn't mean my way is right for everyone else but I promise that you will all be back on track next week!
