Hi guys

trust you all well , well after a little rest and scout camp started running again went for my first six miler this evening so decided I'll run the hook six mile course again , and once again found it hard had to walk some , but got it done , no where near the time I did on race day , but hit a mental block at the same point like in the race , hope that is not a sign of things to come hey ho , time to sign for the next challenge

hoping to do a park run this weekend it will be my 50th so let's just hope the weather holds as Crabtree is not nice when wet

Hook race report

Was great to meet up HM4 at the start line !Neil from basingstoke country hotel started the warm up and tried to take part but it was already getting warm

so 10 milers and 11 am off they went then was my turn 6 miles here we go , gun went at 11.12 and so upon crossing the line off I went , concentrating making sure that I was not going to fast , upon getting to the raven hotel I realised that this was going to be a really warm one but I was prepared I had my water or at least I thought , by the time I got up the hill I realised that this was getting hotter and going to be tough , I so a friend supporting and he said you okay , I said no however carried on , followed the road and the breeze eventually was a bit of a pleasure , got to water point at mile 3 , by this point my own water was only good for rinsing the mouth as it was now warm , and the plastic cups they use at the water points were not helping me get enough in my system , now from here in its half way , legs were struggling heading now back to the business park and the dreaded grithin way south hill ( the hill HM4 mentioned) in the business park I realised I was in a spot of bother and had to start walking a bit , not much but enough looking for shade , run walk run walk , so hard at this point , got to water point at mile 5 , Sandra a beaver leader ask if I need water over the head I said yes please which gave me they boost I needed to get me through the next bit , I got up the hill and now the last stretch , kept going but every step was a chore eventually the last bit was in sight , turn left at the hotel , almost there , ran past my son who was a marshal at band hill place , " come on dad you are there " I looked up and there was a man running with his partner I thought to myself this is it I'm going to catch and over take them , headingto the school they were a few paces in front of me , time to pick up the pace , 100 meters to go and now to really give it some , the man saw me and Said " no your Not " and speeded up to there we were sprinting giving it all and over the line , race done , the man turned to me and said , "you have just killed me bu thank you I needed it " okay I lost that battle but what a finish I was now proud , and then collapsed , was asked if I need assistance , no did not need assistance just needed to lie there and recover for a little ,

even though it was tough I am very happy with my time officially 49 minutes and 47 seconds so got my sub 50 , job done

thanks for the meet up HM4 was great to meet you

Hi Lawlorka

welcome to the site , sounds like you are within site of your goal of a sub 60 for a 10k

with an official run the excitement and the crowds will spur you on so dont be surprised if you actually do better than you expect ,i reckon you can achieve your goal on your run , but this will depend on conditions and your condition on the day

good luck and let us know how you get along
