F.I.R.S.T. 3 DAY A WEEK MARATHON PLAN

Posted: 31/10/2013 at 15:30

Going to try First as convinced, due to history of injuries, that I can do no more than 3 runs per week. In fact last week I started getting cocky and did following.

Sun - 15 k 1:20

Wed - 6k 32:00

Fri - 5k 24:00 (pb)  All above on cushioned treadmill

Sat 5k 27:02 This was first run outdoors in years and was a Parkrun event. Due to traffic got there late, no proper warm up and result was grade 1 calf strain.

Lesson is at my age I need to be careful/not stupid , follow a plan and do plenty of stretching, strenghtening and warm up properly.

Chronic Hip/Glute Pain

Had achilles problems that meant I could not run and had psyhio etc but kept getting pain etc.

My advice would be
1 continue strenghtening

2. take up cycling, I did and loved getting up to cycling 200 k in a day and multi day long distance cycles

3. Return to running when body is ready and then run on cushioned surface and build from there.

I am now running again, with concerns, and am up to 15k and hoping to run a marathon next September.

Short annoying pain in hamstring when resting - grade 1 or something else?

Hi Looking for some advice.

Am 51 and running again, as opposed to my normal cycling.

Anyway, on Friday I did a 24.15   5 km on the treadmill, which was a pb for me, and I felt really good with no sign of injury. Then in the course of Saturday I kept getting these short sharp pains in my mid right hamstring. This was happening when I was resting and driving the car, but not when walking. The muscle is not sore to the touch or when I rub it.

I drank lots of water on Saturday evening kept off tbe beer and so far this morning i have had no reoccurance of the pain.

Do people think this is a grade 1 hamstring injury or something else which i could run on?
