Hi Olga,

I've got a question actually - I've heard that the heat required for Bikram yoga can allow people to overextend their muscles and ligaments, causing injury. Is this just a scurrilous rumour? I'd love to know the science behind the high temperatures and the impact this has on practising the postures.

Ask the Experts: Yoga for Runners Q&A with Olga Allon

Morning everyone,

This lunchtime (1-2pm) we're joined by Olga Allon, the founder of Hot Bikram Yoga studios. She'll be on board to answer any questions you have about practising yoga - how you can fit it in with your training, what it can do to relieve specific injuries and more.

Olga's Hot Bikram Yoga studios in Fulham, Balham and London Bridge are firmly established destinations that reflect the ethos of Bikram Yoga, the UK’s fastest growing form of yoga.

Bikram Yoga is a demanding (but highly rewarding!) series of 26 postures and breathing exercises practised in a heated room. Practising Bikram Yoga can help with injuries and weight loss, reduces blood pressure, improves posture, eases back pain and relaxes the body and mind. Each posture in the series requires concentration, patience, determination and self-control, which leads to increased mental clarity and reduced stress.
Bikram is perfect for those who are inflexible (like many runners!) and thos who have never tried yoga before.

We're opening the discussion now Olga so can get answering your questions at 1pm (rather than having to deal with a rush of questions at once).

Hi folks,

Just wanted to jump in and clarify a few things. We are aware of the impact a ban has on the member banned, and the community as a whole, and would be very unlikely to take such big step as a response to a single incident.

There had been a number of complaints, from a number of members, over a number of months about Kittenkat's behaviour on the forum. Getting in touch with directly didn't seem to improve the situation. Kittenkat was warned that we would take further action if necessary, and unfortunately we have had to do just that.

The ban was intended to give breathing space to Kittenkat as an individual and the forum as a whole and I do hope we're able to focus on that element rather than the ins and outs of specific incidents that may or may not have led to the ban.

I hope that clears things up, but do drop a line here or via email if you have any further queries.

Talkback: Pacing Groups At The Virgin London Marathon

Posted: 10/04/2012 at 10:54

Hi Barney,

The answer from our pacing chief is...

"Pacers will run each mile at the specified pace and, if unimpeded, will be accurate to within 10 seconds either side. If they are held up due to congestion they will gradually pick up the pace to make the time up over the next few miles rather than blitzing the pace to catch up on the next one."

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much Sam, and thanks for all your brilliant questions - I'm afraid that's all we've got time for now though!

Check back in a couple of weeks' time for our final webchat with sports psychologist and ASICS PRO Team member Dr Victor Thompson.

Ask the Experts: Taper and Race Week Q&A with Sam Murphy

Morning all!

ASICS Target 26.2 coach Sam Murphy will be online between 1pm and 2pm today to answer your questions about the final phase of marathon training, the taper and race day itself. Whether you're worrying about what training to do in taper, or trying to put together the perfect pace plan for your race, Sam's here to help.

Sam is one of the UK's leading fitness experts, and a keen runner. She has completed 15 marathons (with a PB of 3:22) and the Himalayan 100 Mile Race among numerous others.

In addition to her first class degree in Sport and Exercise Science, Sam is a level 2 UKA running coach and a tutor for England Athletics. She has also written seven books which have been published internationally, including Run for Life: The Real Woman's Guide to Running, and Marathon and Half Marathon: From Start to Finish.

We're opening the discussion now so Sam will be able to get stuck in straight away at 1pm (rather than having to deal with too many questions all at once). That's enough from me - time to get posting!
