Loch Ness marathon 2014

boothy, it might not sound bad but after 18 miles the 2 mile hill out of Dores will sap your strength

It's actually a negative incline but don't be fooled

Good going matty and guess congratulations are in order for doing the decent thing!

emzap, 6km/day is still doable!

BT, you passed the 700 barrier just before me, am on 697 so will get that tomorrow if I run

If I keep going at this rate I should hit 2,122 miles so a little in reserve

Loch Ness marathon 2014

Hi Big Mama and Andy

Loch Ness 2013 was my first marathon and LN 2014 will be my third There will be plenty of downhill running in this years plan - last year I used the downhill bits for rest rather than pushing things and that came back to bite me in the first 8 or so downhill miles of LN.

Simple Training Forumla, would it work?

Good decision to go to the docs JJ. I was having 'flutters' in my chest a couple of months ago, went to the docs and had bloods done and off to the hospital for x-rays (yes, we have a hospital here).

All seemed good cept my cholesterol and am aware of that anyway. Doc decided it might be my sternum and the constant running may have inflamed it a while.

One good thing I learnt was you can now have a blood test to check your prostate, good news for us guys (and probably the docs as well).

Sub 4:30 anyone?

Nice one Fit for Fourty

Pipski, so close so that means it will be a breeze to smash 4:30 next time out

Tim, I feel for you and am still confused how you can train at sub 4 pace then buckle during the race (though it was probably the warmest day of the year). Have you considered a couple of (very) slow 25 milers in training or maybe even 2-3 4:30 jogs?

Well, if it helps I 'lost' my guaranteed 4:30 by going out too fast and that feeling is much worse than a 4:29 thinking you could have done better.

And brag away (until September).

fwiw Steph I'd suggest going with the 4:30 pacer and if all feels good push a little harder in the later stages - am sure you'd get a faster time doing that than follow the 4:15 pacer and maybe blow up later.

HADD Training Method

Not being one to follow 'process' according to my 'plan' I should be doing my 4th HADD test today - 10 days after my Marathon!

I think it will be a good benchmark to check my current fitness before 6 weeks or so of base building again.

3 barefoot runs thus far covering 1.4 miles already. Interestingly (or worryingly) my AHR went up to 82% over half a mile yesterday at 12:45m/m.

DD, I saw your time so congrats and waiting for the write up about your day.

Good call on a couple of days rest then Alastair

I'm coming round to the fact Lochaber was a good run even if I didn't manage sub 4:30. 4:31 is still a PB by over 13 minutes and the rain/wind was pretty bad in places. With better weather am sure it would have been an excellent day

(Chick) and as you say, don't be shit

I hope DD is ok as (@10:45) his chip has not been picked up as even crossing the start line.
