City Marathons, what is missing?

Posted: 18/10/2013 at 13:30

Every city marathon I have done overseas has something in common.  It goes through the centre of it, showing off the best of the city, warmly welcomed by the locals and positively promoted by the authorities.  They all seem to appreciate the economic benefits of bringing in thousands (plus their families) into the city, spending money in hotels, restaurants, bars & other tourist destinations.  They are proud of their cities and are keen to show them off to the world. ......Can't think of any other big town or city in the UK that does that beyond London.

I'd add Brighton to the list of marathons in UK that do this.

flat as a pancake apart from the odd ramp here and there (including one up to the path around the outside of the velodrome) and a short up and over on the roadbridge over River Lea  if I remember correctly

People need to be careful with the spectator passes as I read that spectators are grouped according to the wave which the runner is in (which we don't know yet). Therefore people might end up not being able to sit near one another...just saying it might be best to wait for packs to come through in a few weeks time before offering them to others.....

And yes to this - last year the passes (wrist bands) were colour coordinated with starting pen - each with own designated area of seating within the stadium.

think the point about other sports is valid - lots of people I know (me included) only started running when we had to hang up football boots

Been keeping an eye on this and Lands End Plymouth thread - but will now step forward as we get rough idea of dates.

I'm down in hayle area 14-28 Aug so could do a 10-16 mile stretch on either coast from Penzance round to Gwithian if timings work.
