having my shoulder op next week so imuk will get me in the mood for the brutal half.......

hey no need to say sorry to me chap...just dont want you turning left on race day before you should

yes for sure ...its the not stopping that helps a lot....even 10 second stops over 6-8 hours can add up.

good luck with it.

Good summary I actually found the short sharp climb at end of Chorley Old Rd/Shaw Brow is pretty steep and 2nd lap might be a bit tough.

Road closures and not stopping/slowing down completely at junctions & traffic lights makes a major difference on race day.

Yeah i'm afraid you've gont the wrong way there chap...on the original map you did turn left into chorley old road and go up shaw brow (and it is a bitch) but now you carry on to the a6 and then turn right into dawsons lane before the glof club.....check the new map you'll that ones out.

and please please dont assume there will be no'll get priority at junctions....and they will look after you best they can with managing it....but there WILL be cars on the course so stay safe

hi mark, sorry mate i've missed some of these posts, i only came back into the country last night...hope the ride went ok.

for those asking about nutrition i once got some great advice from the guys at torq energy thats great for first timers.

you are g of carbs per hour....but the body can only manage about 60-70 about 2 gels per hour....however...the best trick i learned from the guys at torq is think of keeping the tank full...and topping it up regularly...not letting it run out...and needing it once you've bonked.

what i do is put all my gels into a bottle....topped up with a bit of water....and take a gob full every 15 minutes...the equates to about 2 gels an hour...and keeps the tank topped up.

really worked for me and this trick alone got me through IM after my first attempt failed.

hi guys.....i'll be able to put a route up on garmin but i'm sure you can export the gpx file from the rideit website that has a link on the imuk website...if not i'll put one up for you but it will be midweek.

Mark yes thats right.....i'm not even convinced they have the numbers right cause according to garmin data from the ride it will be about 300ft less overall.....but there are not many places where you'll be able to just go for it.....the longer second secion now has a lot more up and down...some of it easy....but hunters hill is very steep near the top.....i think its harder than the top part of SHL....there will be people walking up it for deffo!!!

done a proper recce of the new route today and i'm happy to report.....i think its

there is no doubt the bottom half of the route is tougher than the 'old bottom half'...but its possible over the total route it will be marginally easier.....but its much more up and down although theres less climbing overall...imo theres a lot more instances of climbing.....and now with hunters dont have 3 'big climbs' (3 times up shl) you actually have 4 big climbs on the day and the last one being after about 90 miles.....OUCH!!!

yes i know where it is now.....its classed as Cat4 (SH is cat 3 but actually that C3 climb section actually starts way before SHL) its steep but not too long.....not as tough as shl if you ask me.

mrsB is transferring to IMUK tomorrow.....sadly....i will not be racing an IM this year...i've withdrawn from sweden cause i just dont have time to train due to work commitments....i'm doing the brutal half as my A race instead.

plenty guide rides going on if anybody is interested in being shown around.....i'm in full support mode for imuk again this year....its gonna be brilllllllll
