GULP just entered my first half marathon

Good evening all

Yvonne - many congrats again.

lynneem - Seems like you've got a good amount of fitness, a half shouldn't be such a big problem, build your long distances up slowly at a pace that you can/ could hold a conversation, no need to worry about intervals yet especially if your running lots of hills.

Price of races can be a deemed expensive, if you factor In everything like road closures policing etc it is understandable, have a look at the prices for ironman races. Price of trainers is another thing though always buy last years model.

B&T - hope the organisers can sort out the errors from the trail run. Sounds like you ran it well though.

Been doing more running again and keeping the swimming up, however managed to go for a 30 mile bike ride today, just had a look for new routes for next spring
A bit of caution for you all if your on a bike don't get going down long steep hills trying to break the speed record cause just around the corner there is another long steep hill that you have to go up.

Evening all,

Some great training going on.

Em - great race I'm sure a sub 60 is not far away.

BT - I've got a turbo trainer for those dangerous days and dark nights hard to do over an hour on it though, but great for speed training. Sounds like some nice 10k races.

Well after a long time of biking and a bit of swimming, with the darker nights training will be more running and swimming focused. Monday swam, Tuesday easy 5 mile run and tonight a 10 mile run swim tomorrow & run Friday won't be doing much over the weekend wife's b'day.

Not a difficult course however after the split (1/2 marathon) it can be quite lonely, Usually only a couple of hundred do the full.

Hi all,

Yvonne - good to hear that grandchild is doing well.

Toby- Awful about the race being a con, hope the police can get hold of him.

Mel - hope you got your run in today, not so bad getting up earlier today having the extra hour. Your right about finding time, with family stuff and work had a fair week last week though.

So last weeks training - 2 hrs swimming (2 sessions), bike 6 hrs (4 sessions). Run 2.5 hrs (2 sessions) a bit unbalanced but have to take advantage of light and weather for the bike.Take care all.

Toby - yet again good mileage

EM - very wise to rest up difficult I know but sensible.

Not done any running for a week and a bit, plenty of cycling and swimming done though.

May go for a run tomorrow and just keep thinking of avoiding the old mans shuffle.

Hi all,

B&T - great that your lad had a giggle at the expense of bullies I absolutely hate that behaviour.

Well done on the run and legs being ok Mel.

Toby - don't blame you having a chicken day.

After Mondays swim did an hour bike ride followed by a 5 mile run Tuesday, around a mile swim tonight. Been watching all the YouTube videos about swimming, it seems so technical but I'm learning. Gives me enough to think about so boredom of the pool doesn't kick in.

Great report Mel good determination at the end.

Hopefully no more falling off B&T, how did your son get on?

Swam tonight around 70 - 80 lengths, could of kept on. Would like to shave around 5 secs off a length that will come though with more practice.

Toby - nothing like a move to chuck out unwanted stuff.

Had a rest day today B&T just cause we had a christening, otherwise swimming biking and running going all right, finally wrote myself a training program for over the winter to get a good base and easily get into 1/2 ironman races with little notice. Particular pleased with the swimming done 3 lots of 50 mins - 1 hr continual swims last week, trying to get into adult swimming classes but everything clashes with other stuff.

B&T - you really must try cleats never fallen off, got them set so I can easily get me feet out.
