Famous people you have seen running

Choella, I also saw the Brownlees a few months back.  They were on their bikes and were stopping for a "comfort break" as I passed!

Walking a marathon is easier?

Posted: 22/04/2013 at 13:10

Re the original question, I find walking 26 miles is easier than running 26 miles.

Each year, I do a 40 mile walk over The Ridgeway in Oxfordshire.  The day finishes with me often feeling all in, but it never gets as hard as the final miles of running a marathon.

Those unfit enough to be struggling in walking, looking wrecked at 7 hours would probably have been hospitalised if they had run the whole distance.

What did the natives in the Old Kent Road make of a stretch turning up at their local at 11am?

Sounds like a great stag do.

The "deaf runner" argument is a particularly offensive justification for wearing an iPod at a race.

Its a bit like saying "I expect to get a seat on the bus/ tube/ train home because all those old/ pregnant/ mobility impaired people do."

The odd one or two people, with genuine need, can be accommodated by a decent and inclusive society.  That doesn't mean its reasonable for everyone else to choose to take the p*ss and do as they please.

VLM 2013 - Hotel recommendation

Posted: 25/09/2012 at 21:10

Also a five times reject!

If you are happy to stay a little out of town, I would suggest somewhere east of Blackheath/ Greenwhich.  Its been a decade since I lived in SE London but I seem to remember the trains go to Dartford and Orpington from both Greenwich and Blackheath, so a hotel  or b&b should be cheap down that way, and yet still have great links to the start and finish.

I'm coming from Essex, so Dad is droping me off at Dartford railway station and I am expecting room to swing a cat on the train direct to the start.

Against the rules, anti-social, dangerous.

Why is there any debate?

Isn't it about time for the rejection letters for VLM yet?

I'm still in the old five strikes and your in scheme. Was rejected in 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008, so this should be the year.
