Long run length after 1st marathon?

Posted: 15/06/2013 at 11:00

Morning all, I recently completed my first marathon (Edinburgh) in may and I'm now looking to get back into training for the York marathon in oct. but I don't know what length long run to jump back into. 10 miles seems too short after my mara training and I don't want be wasting time running lower mileage if I can help it! Any help appreciated!

mid-foot strike ..fore foot strike

well my motto is take everything said about this area of running with a pinch of salt. I meant no offense to anyone.

All I would say is Im a midfoot striker but i dont think about technique I just run naturally, I know my heel kisses the ground as my foot flexes.

im guessing the OP is thinking about changing from heel striking to midfoot??

well it doesnt 'have' to if your being pedantic, but it is advised, otherwise u are putting a large strain on your calves as they are not allowed to rest.

it should touch down a split second after your mid foot

'barefoot' style shoes

take moving into minimalist shoes slowly it will be worth it in the end. I made the change 9 months ago and i feel far better than when  i ran in shoes. I run in luna sandals and vibram bilikas i find both are great. I wear injinji socks with both, great socks that wear well and dont cost the earth. I wear my vibrams and luna's all the time for running, tarmac and trail.

My Vibram Fivefingers Shoes (ongoing story for potential users)

Reading this i feel sorry for the OP, he/she is only sharing their experiences so why all the bashing? clearly people have nothing else to do. I came on here to read about vibrams to be greeted by people saying ' why are you even posting this' come on!

you would not speak to this person like that if you met them face to face so why over a keyboard do you think you are so much better than them? baffles me

anyway.. out of interest what vibrams did you end up buying as i dont think you mentioned it?

Running tights etiquette

Posted: 11/02/2013 at 17:10

i wear running tights all the time if the temp is low, i wear shorts over the tops to keep me warmer, as i dont wear underwear when running (it chafes) and to carry my phone gels etc.

nothing wrong with them, anyone who says there is clearly isnt a runner... i would like to see anyone run longdistances comfortably in close to freezing temps without them...

Why can't I lose my belly and get a 6 pack

thats what i was trying to say but until someone comes along to back you up its hard for you to get your point across to people without force. The above is 100% correct, so thanks for posting this.

Maybe the 'brainwashed' will actually listen.. but i doubt it
