Fab, thank you Booktrunk - like you say, a basic watch would have been fine for my runs - I am no ultra runner/ base camp explorer/ geocacher, but your links explain the running mode.  Much appreciated.  Thanks too Pudge.

Thanks Pudge - I am such a techno-phobe, a swap may well be has a geocache function - what the heck is that all about?!

Garmin Fenix - running watch??

Hi - I asked Santa for a basic Garmin watch (training for VLM, although trained for 2 previous marathons without any watch at all).  My thoughtful husband bought me an all singing all dancing Garmin Fenix, which on closer inspection seems to be more for hiking ie it can help me back to base camp if needed?!

Just wondering if any normal runners have one and if it's ok?  I just wanted to know how far I had run and how fast, that's all - but can't even work out how to do that.  I don't think he'll be too happy if I say it's no good.

Short HM schedule (post marathon)

Posted: 08/05/2013 at 09:33

Hi - have just completed a marathon  and entered a HM in 5 weeks time.  I'm trying to find a schedule which can get me up to speed in the next few weeks as I find it hard to train without a piece of paper telling me what to run & when.  I've looked at the training plans on here but can't find anything below 12 weeks.  Can anyone point me in the right direction please?  Also, how realistic am I for wanting to run the HM at full effort 5 weeks after a marathon PB? Thanks.

VLM 2014 - Ballot or Good for age??

Posted: 29/04/2013 at 07:41

Does anyone know whether I should enter via the ballot asap, or hang on for a good for age place? Am running a marathon next week and am aiming for a time which would get me good for age, but don't want to miss out on the ballot?

Anyone know the process for good for age?  Is says on the website I can't apply til end of May...

Would be gutted to miss a ballot opportunity by waiting a week - am assuming it'll be full by then??
