RRR,Pete and JJ thanks for info.  Think taxi best bet, going to be me, wife and 2 kids so bus fares would probably add up to taxi fair. Getting train from Glasgow-Manchester so just wasn't sure of best station closest to travelodge Salford quays?

Question for the local runners- I'm getting the train to Manchester and staying in travelodge Salford quays, do I just get the train into Manchester Piccadilly or is there a better station to buy a through ticket too? Thanks in advance.

If anyone wants my code for the free ticket let me know, I won't be travelling down from Scotland for it.

Yip another fan of the canal paths, I'm fortunate also to have old railway lines near me that have been tarmac-ed into walk ways, can be on them within half a mile and can cover a 20 mile run without having to leave them again.

Alanb- yes carried on from marcothon but over 6 days a week with one rest day but making up the missed miles over the 6 days to keep the miles up. 19 miles under 7 min/miles and that's a training run!!! Goodness me! What's your target time for Manchester?

JJ- well done on your 18 miler, fantastic. Great time on your legs. Don't worry about hitting the wall, that's when you want to do it, in training runs when you can learn from it. Great effort.

Zonda- I'm off to decathlon this week, love a wee running bargain.

15.5 miles for me at average 9.07 min/miles. Real struggle today for me, legs really tired. That run took me just over 300 miles for Dec/Jan and got to say I'm done in. Last week of the challenge and then I'm taking a full 5 days off.

Runningtap- well done, nice week of running, very precise with your data, mines is run and get it done....lol.

Zonda- well done on the 16 miler, nicer weather today for a run eh? I left from kirkintilloch and ran out and back to Strathblane along the old railway line, nice wee route. I wonder if decathlon still have the gels, that's a steel.

Gary- well done to your boy, that's some great running.

Zonda- you done alloa before? I did it last year, great half apart from a killer hill 10.5 miles in! I left it too late this year, it sold out really quickly, last year I entered the week before.

Not joking, it's only been shorts for me and I've only had 3 rest days since the 01/12 so been out in all weather's. It's my head and hands that's got to be wrapped up then I'm fine.

Alanb- thanks, I just wanted that first 20 miler under the belt early, it was slow. That's been an 18 miler and a 20 miler so this week I'll have a fall back week to a 15 miler.

VLM 2012 first timers???

Hi everyone, nice to see some posts to this thread. Hope you are all doing well?

Well my training is picking up for the Manchester marathon in April with the first 20 miler done on Sunday. Going to try and get up to 23 miles with at least a couple more 20 milers before race day and targeting a sub 4 hour marathon.

Good luck with all your running and stay safe in these freezing conditions.

Charity places available for VMLM 2015!

Agree also but still think £1000 is high at this stage. £750 would be more reasonable as without being disrespectful to your charity who I'm sure do tremendous work people donating might not give as much to  as say the bigger cancer charities that maybe mean more to more people. I'm not saying that's right or anything but with only 3 months to go training will be at the front of the runners mind rather than fundraising.

Sincerely wish you good luck though and hope you are successful in filling the places.
