A small correction to Flyaway's posting - my combined time for T1 & T2 was 28 minutes and 33 seconds. Do you think I was trying to put off the marathon?

Good luck for Kona next year Flyaway! Fantastic achievement.

Thanks again Pirates, especially the Youth Hostel massive!

Thanks everyone for making my 1st Ironman such an amazing experience; competitors and supporters alike, you have been superb. Sailing with the Pirates has been awesome, and I do not use that word lightly!
Well done to those that finished, and commiserations to those that didn't.
Top pirating one and all!
Ironman Austria 2015 has been a blast!

I took a year to do a Half Ironman, and gave myself another year to get to Full distance.
I'm still not real triathlete shape - still 16 stones; but I figured I could wait and probably still not get exactly where I wanted to be, so I made the commitment.

Right or wrong I feel better than I have in a long time, and confident in my training.
Like I said before consistency is the key. There is no substitute for regular training.

And yes - I'm nervous as @#!*% , but will have a bunch of Pirates helping me on to the finish!

Well done Big Phil!
Remember the first cut is the deepest!
Hang on, maybe that's not the right phrase?
The longest journey starts with a single step.
Is that better?

Seriously, well done for getting started. You'll be at your first start line before you know it. Keep up the good work!

Good luck on your journey Big Phil.

As many have said consistency is the key with training. Better to be doing regular sessions that gradually build in terms of time and effort, rather than trying to go all out and getting injured, having to stop training, getting disillusioned and comfort eating.

Get your diet under control early, and the training will be easier and more productive.

I'm down to 16 stone (from nearly 20 stone at my peak)and have my first Ironman on Sunday.
