Hi, due to one of our entrants falling pregnant I have a spare place for the Helsby Four Villages Half Marathon which is next Sunday 19 January 2014.

The race is full but the place can be transferred using the Fabian4 website. Cost is £20.

Please let me know if you'd like to take this place, it would be a shame to see it go to waste for such a popular race.

I enjoyed the run and got an ok time (2:18) but I must admit I was a bit disappointed too. The course was way too narrow in parts and just running along pavements at the side of busy roads isn't great when there are 4,000 of you! Also found the course quite boring, the start was disorganised and total lack of any timing was a major disappointment. Thought the water stations were excellent though and I did enjoy the run in the sunshine... nice way to start a sunday. Not sure I'd do it again though.

Spot on duck girl. I don't see anyone being at all unpleasant or sarcastic. It's just a normal discussion.

(Victoria: if that was aimed at me then I think you have misinterpreted my post(s).)

Hope not, I like the half distance and really don't think a full marathon in liverpool would be as popular as the half. IMHO they should aim to get 8000 people in the half - that would be a great achievment.

As you say though, with the bad press of this year it's not going to be easy to make a success of it. I'd love to know the reasons why the London marathon company pulled out from running it again.

Chip times worked for me - 1:45:05 which is spot on according to my own timing. V pleased with it as I was aiming for 1:45!

I do think these chips aren't as reliable as the shoe or ankle tags though, and I too saw that they were scanning people after the finish which I found a bit odd?

Great way to calculate distances of your training routes
