Triathlon plan difficulty

A 4 week plan isn't going to do much in terms of improving fitness - most plans are at least 12 weeks  and more often 16 weeks. If you are looking to get used to the discipline then do some brick sessions (bike then run).

I wouldn't worry abput separate cycling shoes. Just cycle in your running shoes-transition 2 will be very quick. Get to the event in plenty of time to register and get your bike in transition.

Have you got a smart phone: either Android or iPhone. If so, download Runkeeper and you can set up a training workout, that will tell you (via headphones) when each interval starts. You can set intervals by time or distance.

+1 for strapall: micropore falls off when wet (in my experience: I guess there are different types). Compression tops can work, but can get a bit warm.

Little square of toilet paper to go over the nip itself, then a cross of strapall tape. For marathons, I tend to do three pieces of tape across it, and then some vaseline across the top (belt and braces). The longer it stays on, the more secure it is, but this is a balance. If you are doing a long run, you might want to put it on the night before to make sure it is really secure. The quicker you take it off after the run, the less painful it is (but it really isn't that painful, and I am reasonably hairy).

Training for a shorter Tri

This is very revealing: a thread called "Training for a Shorter Tri" and everyone seems to be signing up for Outlaw. 

Two questions:

i. Is this inevitable once you've entered the dark place that is Tri-world?

ii. Why am I looking at the Outlaw website?

Do you combine holidays with races?

Strategic error, I'd say. 

My line: "If I did the Amsterdam marathon, we could all have a nice holiday there". That went down quite well.

Structured running

You need some variety: some easier longer runs, and some shorter, faster runs. And some different routes. All of this will keep you fresh, and will probably boost your motivation.

And sign up for parkrun. Everyone should!
