I reckon 15 miles a week is burning about 2400 calories (I estimated a 10 min per mile  pace) a week: you might need to increase your mileage. Speed work / intervals can also help.

PMSL DF3 will have a field day.

Agree with becky. 

How to treat:

1. Rest

2. Ice.

3. Stretch your calves out: calf tightness is apparently a very common cause of shin splints.

Any suggestions for what I should be doing in the week before my first sprint Tri?

 

Did a final brick bike/run session today which is probably hillier and tougher than the actual race (Wilmslow). Planning on a couple of light swimming sessions focussing on smooth technique, with a gentle run and gentle bike session through the week.

You'll be sent your number (incl chip) and a magazine directly from the race organisers. Should be with you in the week or two before the race.I presume the website should give you details about time and location. 

I've run it twice: quite fun, but pretty crowded. Prefer the "We love Manchester 10K" in July, personally. A fraction of the cost, and you see a lovely shiny blue football ground, rather than the monstrosity at about 2 miles in, in the BUPA race.

P&D Autumn Marathon Training Thread

I might join in: to be honest, I'm not following P&D, but using Steve Smythe's 4.15 training plan I got off the RW website. Might be interesting to compare the approaches. Its not as intensive as P&D 55: maxes out at 46 miles a week.

I ran 4.32 at Brighton last year, after following a 'get you round' plan. Steve Smythe's plan has more speed work, and running more days, so I'm hoping for a bit of an improvement. Desperate to get going, but the plan starts mid-June.

I've just explained to my daughter (9 year old) about the timing cock up, and how important it is for runners to know their time. She gasped and asked "Are they going to run it again?!" A solution, I suppose?

Do you have a smart phone? (iPhone or Android). If you get the Runkeeper app, you can programme a workout to different time periods. Probably can with other apps as well.
