Structured running

You need some variety: some easier longer runs, and some shorter, faster runs. And some different routes. All of this will keep you fresh, and will probably boost your motivation.

And sign up for parkrun. Everyone should!

(This is really difficult to follow - we're having a similar discussion on the RW forumites FB page as well.)

I'm following the RW 4hr15min training schedule. 4 runs a week, but I'm going to add 2 days of cross-training in as well.

Well, Wilmslow Sprint Tri done yesterday. Really enjoyed it, but probably didn't press myself as much as I would in a running only event. Only now having done one do I appreciate just how dominant the cycling is in triathlon. Contemplating another sprint tri in the run up to Chester, but might delay it until next year and really focus on bike training over the winter. But the photos certainly provided more motivation for the weight loss ...hmmmmmmm.

1st Marathon

I personally would try and find a half 3 or 4 weeks before your marathon as a tune up race, and a guide to what your marathon pace should be. 7 weeks before is a bit too much of a gap: things could change in that time.

I've yet to get hold of my pirate gear -this was my first foray into the world of tri.

 Did see one PSOF top as I was coming back up the end of the run - woman heading out on the run at about 9.55.

Any tight mens running shorts that dont make you look a gimp?

Can anyone recommend some gimp wear suitable for running?  Lycra ball gag? Non-chafing nipple clamps -you know the sort of thing.  If I get a VLM place next I quite fancy getting on the telly.

Wilmslow sprint done. Absolutely loved it - all went very smoothly.  Swim(400m in 10.02) faster than the time I put down, but probably could have gone a bit faster, but reckoned that it probably wouldn't make a huge difference overall, and wanted to keep something in the tank. Smooth transition to the bike-reasonably flat 21km with a couple of sharp climbs but nothing too taxing - 57.51. Did as advised and dropped down a gear or two towards the end, , and felt pretty fresh at the start of the run ( 6.25k). Some mild undulations, but the two footbridges were a bit tough.  

Overall 1.50.05 (unofficial). Loved every minute and will probably sign up for the re- run in September, even though it will be taper time for Chester marathon.
