Out of the Blue Fast runs - why?

Posted: 11/03/2007 at 18:57
Did a run today of 8 miles. Not expecting to do a fast one but relaxed. Got back and looked at my diary and it was the fastest time by over 1 minute that I have run it and that was in three years. It is a run I do regularly and I have not been doing any interval training or even any long runs.

Where do these things come from?

I can only think the yoga I have been doing almost daily for the last couple of weeks made a difference. Or was it the Biriani the night before? Or was it the caffeine in the Tesco Kick I had 15 min before the run? The warm weather? The shorts and vest? The position of the moon?

Who knows.

I guess I'll try and replicate as many of these in two weeks time for the Eastleigh 10K. The moon might be problem though.

Thanks Siance Looking back could have been over-training. Do you know how long it would take to get back to where I was and how best to do it?

It is consistent but at over 10bpm higher than the rhr before the race 7 weeks ago which was also consistent at 39-41 through the summer. Also I have felt quite tired lately but not ill just sleepy.

Thanks for your reply Tipsy Nurse. What could a blood test show?

I don't think any fitness lost impacts my rhr that much from past experience. I am just not sure if I need to be training at a steady level for recovery or trying to do more intensive training to get my hr back down.

Just over 7 weeks ago I had a bad cold and did a 5 mile race. since then my Resting Heart Rate is at least 10bpm higher. Was 39-41 when rested now is usually about 52-55. I have done one other race since then and still trained but took a whole week off to see if it was overtraining but the RHR does not come down.

Any ideas why this might be. Any doctors out there who could shed some light on this please help.

Many thanks

Darren

I missed that going to the pub comment. Who said that? The presenter or the winner?

she tried it again with the older ones but they were having nothing of it. The 16 year old boy winner seemed to quite like the cuddle from the TV presenter though ;-)

I need to rant!

What a great idea to show the Junior Great North Run on childrens channel CBBC. If only they had got a couple of athletes or the usual presenters to commentate. The presenters were awful. Comments like 'a great day for running if there is such a thing' and the general attitude really ruined this opportunity to get kids interested in running.

On the course the presenter was interviewing competitors. Fair enough you may say but she was trying to get a response from athletes who had clearly entered the event to race it. She even tried to interview the 2nd place runner!

What a discrace.

Rant over.

Hey NoTorious

Be careful with those Jaffa Cakes. I am no way endorsing the use of these under the BISCUIT rehab programme. I believe they contain egg which contains protein and may lead to faster muscle repair. The effects of fast muscle repair are unknown but it is widely thought this could lead to commencement of training and therefore further breakdown of muscle.

We just don't know the long term dangers. If you do go down the Jaffa Cake route be careful not to start training again too soon.

Yeh RICE doesn't even involve eating even though RICE is a food.

To make a success of marketing this rehab programme I need a good acronym.

BISCUIT

Binge on
Ice cream
Sugar
Chocolate
U....
Ice Cream (Again)
T....

Can't think straight. I'll have another biscuit. Help me out and we'll share the rights.
