Help with wanting to cycle on top of running

Posted: 15/09/2013 at 21:34

A brick is just the term for putting 2 sessions together e.g. swim then straight onto bike or bike straight into a run.  It is not, as my Dad had me believe, putting a brick in a rucksack while you train!!

I forgot about the oly at bosworth, did the sprint this year so may do oly next year. (Although my theory is if im slow at 70.3 its still fab, if im slow at oly its just slow!) Cowman sounds good... in my summer hols too! I wish I had been quicker off the mark for outlaw though.... looks like a good race. Im even semi considering the full, but shhhhh.

I loved it this year! Perhaps a bit too much, so I will be back next year to push myself a bit harder and maybe not drive random strangers mad on the run by chatting and grinning like a nutter!

Im looking for another middle distance earlier on in the year... my hubby and friends got half outlaw places but I decided not to sign up before the vit incase I really hated it. Then it sold out Guess I will have to be the bag and track pump mule for that one! Any suggstions (close to home -midlands- and on a budget)?

Hi Scott.

You need to run off the bike as soon as you can.... have your run shoes ready, dump your bike in the house, change shoes and go. That way you will experience, and get used, to the jelly leg feeling. If you hang around for 15 minutes there isnt much point. Even a short run after the bike will help. Most of my brick runs (run from bike) were only 15mins long in the lead up to my first half irondistance.

Also, really spin your legs out on the bike in the last mile to get ready for running. I cant give you much advice for run to bike as I have never done a duathlon. Im sure there are plenty here who can though. And if they give different advice for the bike to run brick, listen to them, i dont know much!!
