Running in Luxembourg

Posted: 02/12/2010 at 15:09

I am moving to Luxembourg in January 2011 and would like to join a club or generally get involved in 5k 10 k races. I have found some info on the Night Race in June and Route de Vin in September but not much else. Can members in Lux help me out?

I ran the London Marathon this year (44 years old and first time!) and had a fantastic day so I need to get back into the swing of things after a 6 month rest!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to everyone who took part on Sunday. What a fantastic experience and what fantastic support!

Had a panic coming into the marathon as I was stranded in Egypt and only arrived back in the UK early hours Thursday.

Started well at planned MP then tweaked calf after mile three! Panicked for thirty seconds then decided to turn off ipod and Garmin and enjoy the experience at a slower pace and take in the atmosphere.

This was the perfect strategy and I managed to run the remaining 23 miles 385 yards to finish in 4hrs 44 minutes (2:17 half) so a pretty even run.

Got the medal and am now a marathon runner - how good is that!!

Final long run of 17 miles finished today. Going to El Gouna in Egypt on Friday for some warm weather tapering around the pool!

There is a gym so a couple of 5-6 mile runs will be in order to keep the legs ticking over.

All inclusive package - does this mean I still have to be careful about the food I am eating? Think not!

All the best to you everyone - I for one am amazed at how far I have come since the snowy days of late December, January, February and a litle bit of March!

Iccle Jim - I am delighted with 3:19 for the East Hull 20. The wind was horrendous - my race number blew off after 6 miles and went across one of the farmers fields!

Turning into the wind at 10 miles was just like someone had switched on a turbine in a wind tunnel - legs were pumping ( a bit!) but not getting very far. Ran for a few miles after this with 2 club runners (Steve and Sue) who are also in the VLM so that was good.

More head wind at 17-18 miles was also a struggle but pleased to finish just in front of my marathon pace of 10 minute miles - even if it was by a few seconds.

Well done to you too Iccle Jim - it was a good preparation race don't you think?

Iccle Jim - I am lining up for the Hull 20 too - only been to 18 miles in training so a little apprehensive. Did the Retford Half last Sunday and had the full week off - just a 3 miles stretch out tonight and tons of pasta over the next 48 hours!

Little Legs. Sam James on the shirt - running for Help a London Child (light blue vest)
Snapdragon - orange vest with "Rich" on it
GaryCooper5 - Alzheimer's Society T shirt - GAZ on the front
BLUE START LIST
SCharm - running in Nidd Valley Road Runners Club Vest (hopefully with Sarah on it if can find adhesive letters that will come off later!)
Russell Nimbus. Red shirt with Russell written on front and back in white letters.
Cazmo - Basingstoke Vest or Congleton Harriers (not decided yet)
Gladrags - yellow Starlight vest - with Gladrags written on the back so you can say hello as you run past!
Iccle Jim - black shorts, white t-shirt (might be long sleeved if cold) with JIM on the front and my cartoon on the back
WTS - Cancer Research top with "Mike" on the front and "Way Too Slow" on the back
BIG AL - Black T and Shorts, with Green MacMillian vest, BIG AL on front and back

Completed the Retford Half Marathon in 1:53 yesterday which I am delighted with! Target time was 2 hours but had lots in the tank after 8 miles so went for a sub 2hrs with 4 quick miles at sub 8:30 followed by 'sprint' in last mile of 7:30 to finish.

No aches and pains today so full of confidence now. East Hull 20 next Sunday so will need to take it steady for at least the first 10 miles and see how it goes.

Planning one further long run of around 20 miles before taper with 3 weeks to go. As a marathon 'newbie' does this seem about right?

Good luck everyone!

Thanks for all your words of support out there.

I had a sports massage last night - just feels like paying someone to beat me up!

A bit sore this morning but no major niggles which is a bonus.

Will watch Eddie on Sky + for a bit of inspiration hat in between other stupendous feats of endurance for Sports Relief.

Retford Half on Sunday and aiming for sub 2 hours if I feel ok on the day. East Hull 20 the week after and then just one more long run of 20 miles before tapering.

Amazed by the effort and dedication everyone is putting in - I am sure it will be worth it on the 25th!

This is my first marathon and as a novice forty something reading about 7 minute miles is about as close as I will ever get to one!

I did an 18 miler on Sunday in 3:05 and ran slower than my planned MP of 10 minute miles but felt awful - never got into a rhythm throughout the run. This knocked my confidence as training had been going ok up until then. Did a speed session on Tuesday and 10 miles yesterday at a brisker pace of 1:28 and felt much better. Maybe going slower on the long run just didn't suit me.

Retford half marathon this sunday, East Hull 20 next week and then one more 20/22 mile run planned before tapering (using the Garmin sub 4:30 programme). I just hope I have put enough long runs in.

Running for Alzheimer's in the marathon as my dad has been diagnosed with this awful disease so I will finish - wish me luck!
