Hello all Before I tell you about my day:
You sound ouchy and very fed up. Don't blame you, work politics are the WORST. Well, as Sluggie says, at least it's Friday.
Amandax, do let us know how you find the night run. I quite like going out at night, but I'm in a village so I can stay on pavements that are lit and can look in people's windows as I go past. Not sure even a head torch would keep me from tripping but then I'm a klutz.
Coco, I'm glad the evening wound up at least bearable. Bet you're glad it's the weekend, though, you need some time off now.
Melds, like Coco says, let us know how the FGO has got on. He's a good fella so I'm sure he'll settle down quickly. The GPO, now, that's a different story BTW, any news from the errant lodger???
Peter, I never realised that shoe sizes were such a sensitive part of your job! Can you explain, or is it not something you want to talk about before the 9 pm watershed?
Daffs, that sounds like a very, um, bracing outing! Being cold and lost on the hills is one of those things it's more fun to recount afterward than to do! Here, have another cuppa. And if you have any leftover cake, this is the moment, I reckon
That really is adding insult to injury. You were clearly in pain, the biddy antiB's made you sick, and the last thing you needed was snarky remarks! Hope the meds work now so that at least the infection subsides enough that they can do what they need to next week. xx
Sluggie, nice that you've earned the right to stay tucked up. Cold, grey and miserable is the situation here too. Hope the telly in the bedroom is now working properly!
And now I can reveal that a brilliant time has been had here by the WAISter contingent Mr C and I walked into the hotel, passing a nice couple waiting out on the pavement, and then looked around. You realise that Tubs and I have never seen each other, so we sort of peered around, and the couple from outside came in, and we sort of peered at each other---and it was them! Well, you all met them at Stratty so you know how lovely Tubs and Mr T are, and we had a fabulous day. We started with coffee and pastries, obviously, then followed a brilliant plan hatched by Mr C: we took a taxi out to the harbour, and then went onto the SS Rotterdam which is now permanently moored there. She is a magnificent ship of the Holland America Line that plied the route between Rotterdam and NY from 1959 til 1997; and what's really intriguing is that she is a time capsule of luxury in the late 1950's. There were so many beautiful touches in the way she was built and decorated. And it was huge fun for Mr C, with his seafaring experience. We went up and down and inside and outside, got to see the theatre and ballroom and everything---there was even a real bride having her pictures taken on the stairs! The ship is now a hotel and conference centre, as well as a tourist attraction, and I think Tubs is already trying to talk Mr T into staying there next time You can see some photos here:
After that we went back into town and had lunch in one of the really posh department stores, and just nattered away. We could cheerfully have gone on for the whole day, but this is a busy weekend here and we really h
