Paris Marathon 2016

Posted: 30/10/2015 at 09:29

Thanks for the advice guys. Its really reassuring to know that there is so much support and experience on this forum.

Its not the end of running for me. It will just be the start of running with a bit more care and consideration for my own health. Especially as the same doctor diagnosed a murmur in my husband which result in him having a valve replaced just before Christmas last year. So although I known it can be harmless I am also fully aware of the other routes this could take.

I was surprised she signed the form after finding it. I think she is hoping running a marathon will either "cure" it or make it get  to a point she can justify a referral, (which is incredibly had to get at my surgery.)

Thanks again guys!

Thanks for the support guys. Good to know its probably nothing and it does not affect running.

E mmy - Mine has turned up at some point  in the last few years, ( I don't go to the doctors very often  ) hopefully like Benign Murmurring's it with go away as I get marathon ready.

Having been inspired/ kicked into action  by previous forum post I sorted out my training plan last week and have got my medical form signed and stamped ( only cost £15, which I thought wasn't to bad).

Anyway the reason for my post is that when I went to the docs for the medical including ECG and BP. She listed to my chest and told me I had a heart murmur, "probably a bit of a leaky valve but as you have no symptoms you can run we will listen to your heart again afterwards". This has come as a bit of a shock, its obviously quite mild but has developed in the last two years. Has anyone else had this experience?

As the doctors seems ok for me to run I am going to continue training but no go for a PB.

Could someone add me to the list please?

59954 -grey? 4:15 estimated time.

Thank you for all the great advice on here it much appreciated . I intend to slowly read through it over the next couple of weeks as I suspect it will answer most of the questions I have.

I see a lot of people are staying in hotels, has anyone any camping recommendations?

We are coming over in the camper van and will probably use a site near Versailles before going on to Disney, but I would prefer something a bit closer if possible as I am concerned about getting in on time using public transport on marathon day.

I'm going to book an appointment and  take my form into the doctor after payday. They would not tell me a cost for completing it until they have seen it but knowing my surgery it wont be cheap.

Finally paid just before eight. It may be a long process but its still not as long a wait as London to secure a place. Off to find  a training plan!

Anybody else queuing to get to the payment page? Been stuck there 25 minutes already wondered how much longer I should expect to wait.

Stung inside mouth by a bee (not dead yet)

Posted: 17/04/2015 at 16:30

Couple of years ago I was stung. I was 17 miles in to a 20 mile run and the bee managed to sting me inside the front of my mouth. It was sore and felt swollen. Luckily when I finished the run I just looked like an unfit person who had been for a run. Lesson learned- try to keep mouth closed when running!

Knee pain (had it for months). Suggestions.

Sorry to state the obvious but have you spoken to your GP?

Run a thousand miles in 2015

Stylish- So true, me time is important . I go back to the rest of life in a much better frame of mind if I get to run regularly. Which is why 1000 mile challenge appeals.

Muttley - Congratulations on the million metres! Do you still get a  a medal for that?

My OH did it a few years ago. Back in the days of our dinning room looking more like a gym (treadmill, bike, concept 2 )

Run a thousand miles in 2015

Usual reasons -work, study  and family commitments. Just got a treadmill so even if I cant leave the house I can still run. I'm determined to make time for regular running, aiming for a running routine  rather than building up distance.
