Right Side pain when running

Hi all,

Right where do I start.....

I started running about 6-7 months ago and did my first 10 mile race which was the thanet 10. I did it in 1hr 18 mins and was chuffed and it felt like my running had improved in a very short amount of time.

Direct the day after the race I started getting a quite painful pain in my right side under my rib cage. It was on an off for a short while until a few months ago where it started to get worse.

I have had all the blood tests and an ultrasound and every thing is totally normal.

The doctor now thinks it could be either IBS or a muscle pain.

The problem is now everytime I go running, as soon as I get to around 2-3 miles at around 7.5-8 min miles which is where I feel comfortable the pain starts of low then just gets more and more painful to the point I have to stop. This pain dies down after another mile or so and leaves me with a very dull ache which then gets worse and worse and then goes around my back slightly.

I tend to find that my ability to run with this pain is impossible and I just get slower and slower.

The doctor doesn't know where to go next and has left me feeling very frustated as I enjoy running and now dread running before I go out so probably stress myself prior.

Last week at the club run which wasn't particularly fast I threw up.

Any advice anyone can give or if people have similar symptons which have found ways to improve things would be really appreciated.

WOW people have been really busy. I have not been around for a bit so not too much to report. Missed my club tuesday night run two weeks ago due to traffic getting home. Gutted but made last weeks which was fun.

I did however do my first 10 mile race with the club so my first official club run and really surprised myself. It was the Thanet 10 and I did it in 1hr 18mins and averaged 7.48 min/miles. At 6 miles I was at 45 mins so really chuffed. I came 85th out of 274 people who ran.

Tomorrows run is a 8 mile run where we have to wear our head torches so really looking forward to that.

I hope everyones training is going well and all injuries are getting better now.

iPhone vs GPS watch

i used my galaxy S2 for a while with may my run and to be honest now having bought a second hand Garmin 205 on ebay I have never looked back. The map my run app on the iphone is loads better than the android app and has alot more features.

And you can still transfer data from your garmin to map my run on the computer.

My brother just bought one of these gps watches from sweatshop and you can claim 20% off it too. A real bargain at £83 delivered.


My brother says its better than his Garmin 305.

Lisa that's a great time for a 10 mile. You're going to have to joing another thread with me soon.

I totally agree trail runs are so much harder. I was really shocked at the difference. I still prefer road running though.

Carpathius, great race report. I always find the first couple of miles pretty hard compared to the rest of any race. It's always nice when you get your flow going.

My last two miles of the 10 mile run on saturday was 7.5 min/miles and just seem to have alot of energy but that the end of the 10 it was all spent.

I probably over did it this weekend to be honest. Feeling really tired today but that is probably more to do with the amount of vodka I had last night. LOL.

My brother did the same X country as I did and he managed the 5 miles in 33 mins so he is still much much faster than me. Oh and he weighs about 3 stone less too which I always think has something to do with it.

Hi all. Not been on here for a while. Did my normal club run on tuesday which was great and managed 5.9 miles in 45 mins with avg 7.47 min/miles and then did a 10 mile run on saturday in 1 hr 19 min with an avg 8.15 min/miles so really pleased with that too.

I didi my first kent league cross country in swanley yesterday. Very different for sure and much harder than running on the road. Worked out a 5 mile course and 3 laps. Did it in 42 mins 40 secs. Avg 8.6 min/miles.

I have deal kent fitness league next sunday followed by another one the next sunday and then finish off with the Thanet 10 mile run.

One thing I won't be doing next week is a 10 mile run the day before and drink 7 vodka and cokes the night before LOL.

Thankss Mithel, Im fine on 6 mile to 10 mile runs. Its when I get into the 12 plus miles that my left leg stiffens up. My right leg is ok apart from the calves tightening up.

Yeah your right. The POSE instructor I mentioned do a 6 hour instruction on POSE running for £99. He video gates you and then teaches you posture and how to run correctly. I think this would probably be a great idea especially as I am eager to increase my times and distances.
