London Marathon Cheat?

SG - why abuse?  a race is a race and you can only beat who turns up.

I've just suggested to my wife that she sits in a local car park to give me drinks -  the only word I can repeat on here is Off!

Thanks Jindalee - came as a shock - to drag my old bones round 26 miles is the least I can do

Ceal the Doctor did advise me just after Christmas to take at least on day off a week preferably 2 or 3 at my age, ( I started to take 2)  trouble is in my mind I  am still the same 25-39 year old who was running the sorts of times the guys on  here are running now off 70/80 miles per week and was invincible!!!

Oh well will go ahead - last long run Sunday, then reduce - to be honest I walked away from the marathon 16 years ago when I crashed out and missed my target by 30 odd minutes - I'm only ding it now as my brother in law was diagnosed with terminal cancer just before Christmas and my decided one of us should do something to raise a bit of money for the cancer charity that are helping my sister and BiL cope.  Guess which one of us got elected to do it!!!!

After that will be concentrating on getting a little speed back.

Starting again from the beginning!

I think consistency and hard work go together  - even though I'm not doing speed work and haven't for a while now (trying to protect legs)  the miles are hard enough without it - but we are all here for you to nag and nag ad nag!! and of course support.

A lovely morning here in Clacton, 8 miles done as I am having my rest day tomorrow as it is little Grendel's birthday, only disappointed by seeing the burnt out ruins of a pretty but derelict cottage that appears to have been torched by some drunken holiday makers in the camp site next door. Hopefully with all the CCTV around they'll be caught.  My dream of winning he lottery and refurbishing it gone!!!

oh well catch up later in the weeked post last 20 miler can't wait!!!

I've done 6 or 7 20s or more, longest 23 Sunday before last - so Sunday coming is my last 20 - just hoping to get some spring back in my legs so I guess the 3 weeks won't be to long a taper.

Thanks for the advice both. Of course I am trying to break 2 hours! so will be going out at sub 4 minute miling.

Thanks for the reply Ceal my best marathon time (25 years ago) was done the week after an accidental 16 mile run, We had intended to run the last 6 mils of the then London course and then jog back - would have been fine if we h\d known what the course was.

Have decided to do my last 20 on Sunday and then cut back drastically - the goal is just to get round as comfortably as possible - raise a bit of cash for a charity and be ready for the Clacton 5K series which starts two weeks later!!
