Sub 50min 10k/Sub 1h 50 half marathon

Well done on the mara Nicole. I'm slightly the over way around compared to your targets. I had done my sub 50 10k (48) and 1.45 half and had been training and hoping for a sub 4 mara. I finished VLM this year in 4.13.

I think with your current endurance levels and good weekly mileage from london you can definitely reach those goals soon. The key for me was good quality speed work 2x a week with long runs (up to 14) on sunday and an easy run.

Thanks Reiki, my body does feel like it needs a shorter run. I'll do shorter. Well done for getting some fast stuff in this morning!

Feeling a but unsure of my plan right now. I'm following the RW smartcoach plan and it has a last 20 tomorrow despite it being only 2 weeks to London! I know nerves are usually high toward the end of training but the general consensus (reading up on it) is that I should be 3 week tapering..

Ive got 2x 20s, 1x18 and 2 16s in the bag. The last few sundays have been big - 20 - 16 - 20. Should I trust the plan or go shorter (say 15 instead of 20)?

Maybe I'm just jealous of you guys tapering like crazy!

Is everyone on here doing either Manc or Paris?

I'm doing London so it was a 20 for me yesterday, felt a world of difference from my last 20 - so much easier. I had a deep massage on friday and got my nutrition right this time. I carried a water bottle with me and took regular sips. Aiming for 9:16s and hit 9:17s average with over 1000ft elv but still felt very strong at 20. Massive confidence boost!

Taper and recover strong guys and gals.

I usually don't bother with carrying water but I really felt I should have for my 16 on Sunday! It was a rolling XC for me, target pace was 9:16 and I averaged 9:17s, pleased with it but it did feel tough - not the slow easy it was supposed to. Got 20 this sunday which I am going to run slower than normal

For London I might take a tablet and just crunch it up and pop it in the bottle at a station. How do you carry yours James?

Everyone sounds like they are on track!

My first 20 last weekend, did Banbury 15 with 5 tagged on at the end. It was interesting running a race and not racing it, I had to hold myself back. Got caught out by the weather (as did most) and really struggled to maintain even a slow jog after 17 miles. Ground it out though and got it done.

Good experience and learned a few things about my long run nutrition. Still have tired legs today! I've got 16 this weekend, then 2x 20 milers and then 2 weeks taper. Eeek.

Does a half marathon + 6mile home count as a long run?

I did Banbury 15 last sunday with 5 extra after the race. You just have to make sure you take it slow and not race it!

Great stuff James - to echo what others have said; that is a great long run! You should be pleased with it, don't beat yourself up over pace - it's not race day yet!

18 yesterday for me, 15 of it XC across the fields. I messed up my gel strategy and took one every 5 miles instead of every 30 (after 45 mins). Strangely I felt like I had bags more energy! It was only when I finished and took my belt off to find the extra.. 9.14m/m avg.
