sub or about 4h30 hopefully

Completed 20 mile race today! V pleased - 3:10:33, but not sure how to keep that going for another hr - floating between sub 4:15 (dream on!!) and sub 4:30 (Maybe!)
Tips for 20 miler:_

DON"T start fast!! We started at 9:30 miling, it felt a bit slow, but paid off as from mile 12 with this constant pacing we were overtaking people! (Something I am fairly unaccustomed to!!)

EAT!! I was feeling an energy dip at mile 14 but ate half a cereal bar and it did help

DRINK!! I used lucozade sport all way round, as thats what they ofer at FLM, but also took on water at virtually every opportunity.

RUN WITH SOMEONE SAME PACE - i ran with friend and we definitely kept each other going

FINALLY - celebrate the achievement!! Whatever the finish time, its 20 miles under your belt and thats BRILL! If you can complete that distance you can definitely finish on 17th April!

(My wine is chilling!)

Thats brilliant BB!
I did 3:10:33 at 20 mile Glos today (my watch) - v pleased but keeping up the pace for those last 6.2 will be a challenge to say the least! thoroughly delighted tho' beautiful day and scenery and glad to have those miles "in the bag" !
Happy training all

Hoping for 4:30

theres a sub 4:30 thread on here - why not join in, lots of motivation and support and I'm sure there are some "first timers" on there. good luck with your half - most race predictors indicate something between 1:50-2:05 should be able to achieve a 4:30 marathon. Don't start too fast! Save the energy for later. (Thats usually my mistake tho!)

cwl web fundraising??

I appreciate the charges to the charity, but its probably worthwhile as that and the 5% has to be weighted against the fact that the charity gets the money IMMEDIATELY, and can therefore earn immediate interest etc. Much better I think than pledges on sponsor forms and having to wait and gather it all in. However, maybe CWL have a special deal with bmycharity, because when I tried to set up my charity on it the charges were definitely v high - I think registration was 150 plus 50 pound per month - all payable by the page owner!!! Personally I just couldn't afford it!

When I looked at Bemycharity there was a registration fee and 50 quid a month admin charge to the page owner! Try www.justgiving.com - its free, and dead easy to set up!

Hi all - seems most people on track - well done! Time whizzing by! Did 17 yesterday, feel fine - around 2:45 and its hilly round here so pretty pleased and feeling training is on track. Got a 20 mile race in 2 weeks which will be a really good pacing opportunity - don't know whether to start at 9:30 or 10 min miling! YIKES!
