Turbo Trainers

Can anyone recommend a good (budget!) turbo trainer?!

Just want to keep my fitness up at home whilst my hubby is away and I'm stuck at home with the kids....

Advice Needed!

Hi guys, i'm doing my first sprint triathlon on Sunday and i've been looking forward to it all summer, as luck would have it i've woken up today with a bad head cold and i'm really bunged up. I'm determined to still do it and i know i'll be fine on the bike and run, but i'm really concerned about the swim (my weakest discipline by far at the best of times!)

Does anyone know if there are any rules against doing backstroke? I just don't see how i am going to be able to do freestyle with all the breathing problems i'm having!) Its in a swimming pool.

Advice would be most welcome

What was your biggest problem when you first started tri?

great thread guys, started my 12 week training plan for my first sprint tri this week and really excited about it! Having group swimming lessons so front crawl improving (starting from zero with it really!) although struggling with breathing still.

I'm on hybrid bike, but its nearer a mountain bike really and really need to get a road bike asap! The plan is to go to a bike shop, pick one i like, then try and get it on ebay or the like!

Been running for a few years with 2 marathons and a 2hr 3min half under my belt, so comfortable with the running!

I have a fairly supportive hubby, although he does think i'm a bit nuts......

2013 out of the question for me really, I'm climbing kilimanjaro next summer which is costing me a small fortune! And I'm 30 in 2014 so would be pretty awesome to do IM in my 30th year!
Feel everyones pain re fitting in training. Full time city job and 2 live in step kids. Hubby is gonna have to be mega supportive!!

I'm doing my first tri in September, although i've caught the training bug and am thinking of booking one in earlier! Need to learn to swim properly though. Lessons start next week!

After reading Ironholgs' book (in pretty much one sitting!) I'm considering IM in 2014, the year i turn 30. Will see how i get on over the shorter distances!

HellsBells it is! Although there is already a HellsBells out there somewhere (imposter!) so i've stuck my lucky number on the end. My friends have been calling me Hells Bells my whole life actually and found it hilarious when i married Mr Pells!

Happy training everyone. Hope you all have a good weekend.

Hello! Sorry to gatecrash your thread Lewis, I'm Helen, 27 and I'm new to tri's as well, been a runner for about 5 years and recently decided to jump over to multi discipline to mix up my training a bit.

A friend and i have entered a local sprint triathlon (Great Dunmow, anyone know it?) which i think is perfect for a first timer as the swim leg is in a pool, to be honest at the moment the thought of open water swimming terrifies me! I'm a very weak swimmer but have signed up for a course of lessons so itching to get started now!

The tri isn't until the 9th September but i wish it was sooner!! Hopefully it will be the start of many.

Although i'm weak at swimming and cycling i have every confidence in myself that I can train for this, when i started running i stopped after about a quarter mile, sat on the floor and cried cos it was so difficult. 3 months later I did my first 10km and i've since completed 2 marathons and a few weeks ago beat my half marathon PB finishing in 2hrs 4mins!

 Iron(wo)man one day? Maybe!

I'm sure i'll find all the advice i need on here.

Thanks for reading and in advance for any advice you may give me!!

Advice needed on bikes!

Hello I'm a runner who is looking to get into triathlons at a very basic sprint level!

I'm looking to buy a bike that will get me around town, out on the roads keeping fit etc but that I could use for entering triathlons in the future. I bought a bike last year from Halfords that cost about £300 and it was a "town and trail" bike. Unfortunately it was stolen and uninsured, so I'm back to the drawing board!

Can anyone give me some advice on what type of bike I should be looking for, as I have no idea and there seems to be so many different types of bike!

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks
