Outlaw 2014

I'll just add a word of wisdom that Crashie told me when I started training for my first IM - "you're not training for an Ironman yet.... you are training to cope with the training for an Ironman". That stuck with me. It's hard. Respect the distance. If you don't train properly it will bite your ass and you will fail.

I think it's harder for the 'slower' people (including myself in this as I am NOT fast). I'm not a natural talent at this unlike people like Meli, Kittenkat, Rosie etc. who can whizz round in amazing times... we (as in 'slower ones') are out there for an awful long time, it hurts a lot and you have to train hard. If you don't have it in in the head and have the determination to get the training done, then forget Ironman.

Just downloaded Winter of the Word on my kindle, Ken Follett, 2nd in the trilogy (Fall of Giants was the first)... it was 20p!!!

Haven't read any on the booker shortlist, but might give them a go... quite fancy Hilary Mantel one too but I'm with Little Nemo.... I won't pay a fortune for it, I'll wait til it's cheap!

GFB - Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher??? REALLY??? OMG!  Not sure about that.

I confess to enjoying the Twilight Books it was something different but now everybody has jumped on the bandwaggon.... much better read than the 50 shades load of tripe!

Quite fancy the Snow Child, will have a look see if I can get it on Kindle.

Some good recommendations there, will give them a go, thanks!

Just finished First and Only by Peter Flannery, really good read.

DL - I LOVED the Hunger Games, awesome, I was the same, had to download them one after the other because I couldn't wait for my friend to finish the books! Thought they were a bit deep and dark for a 'kids' book, didn't think it was written for kids at all really. Can't wait to see the film.

Room I loved too, very sad and a bit disturbing really.

A rubbish year for me... spuds totally rubbish, leeks non existent, beetroot just didn't grow at all, fruit trees have been rubbish, got a few apples but nothing else, onions and garlic are okay, must get all the onions in this weekend, runners are going okay so far but were very slow to start, finally getting some flowers on now. So frustrating when you've spent the time and effort planing stuff  Will give it all a dig over and get rid of the weeds and manure the lot and leave it to settle over the winter..... and maybe try again in the spring!

Snails for me too.... they've eaten my coriander  Don't seem to like the rosemary, parsley, chives or mint though.

Christ, why is it that the crops aren't doing so well but the weeds are growing like wildfire! I give up!

Seems there's a few problems with seeds and things. My tatties (swift) should have been dug up weeks ago. I lifted one today and had one half-decent size and about 4 that were not much bigger than marbles  What's going on? My leeks.... I reckon the seeds must have washed away. Planted them about 4-5 weeks ago and not a thing yet. Garlic and onions doing very well. I've just planted my runner beans. They like a lot of water right?

FB thanks for the tip off re the plugs. Hope you get some comeback.

Good morning! An update using the free 30 mins at Premier!

Day 3 dawns (just about).

Day 1 was shit.... although just a marathon at 27.odd miles cough cough.... it pissed down all day so the runners were rather wet (it wasn't that exciting!) and rather cold. Everybody was pretty jovial throughout, and glad of the barn to keep dry... shame it didn't have one of those nice hot blower things, but I guess you can't have everything. We left them to their tents and headed to one of the best B&Bs I think we've ever stayed in!

Day 2 - 45 odd miles. Weather better, bit warmer and light cloud and we even saw some sunshine. A few people are getting lost, although Crashie says he can't understand how, as most of it is pretty obvious, there's the odd scratch head moment but it's not THAT difficult! A long day for a lot of people today. Poor Ian has the most horrendous rubs on his back from his sack yesterday, coupled with very wet conditions, so he was really suffering. I thought I'd had some bad rubs, but this takes some beating! We patched him up with the best things we could find (tesco value panty liners and gaffa tape! Yes, really!). Crashie is doing very well, going strong and steady. Slight niggle with his calf last night but seems to be okay this morning.

Day 3 - the big one. I think it's reduced to about a mere 58 miles. The 'slow' group went off a 6, so another 5am start for us this morning. I feel like shit so I don't know how the runners are feeling!

So far we've been at every checkpoint bar the first, which was so obscure we couldn't find it. CP1 today is at 12. several miles.... a long way for the first one!

I won't spoil any more, I will leave the rest to Crashie.... I can't promise he'll be logging on tonight as I reckon by the time he finishes today he will be too knackered. the good news is, the finish today is back at Holt Casle and a 20 min drive home so at least he can have a night in his own bed!

I will text ATOM when he finishes later... and we'll see Debbo hopefully at CP2 today.

I will bugger off now as I've got a couple more things to do before my 30 mins expires.

Love and hugs to you all x
