Also agree - and my timing is rubbish - coincides exactly with my first marathon on Sunday.  I should get 15mins deducted off my time for it!

 6-7 months of low mileage/rest with PF- but I do believe I have nearly beaten it (dont like to type that too loudly!)

I had to defer my 2010 place due to injury. Duly sent off my reg form- and havent heard anything back at all to confirm that my place has been deferred. It wasnt that long ago- maybe 10 days or so - but am now starting to panic that ill miss the place completely. I did try calling a number of times and could not get through.

Does anyone know whether we get some kind of confirmation back from the organisers and how long it takes.

Osteo Versus Physio

Im with everyone else.  was out of running for around 5 months with something to do with shins/ tendons in my legs. During this time I saw 2 physios for quite a while- but nothing really worked . When ever I tried running something else happened.

I then  switched to an osteo following a recommendation- and I jest not after 1 session he told me to go and run. I havent looked back. First sign of any injury and Im back to him like a shot. He was the first one to look at my whole body ,  and realise that all my injuries originated from back  . Sort out my SI joint and lo and behold everything else works. He does manipulation,deep tissue massage and accupuncture and is extremly knowledgeable. But he  says that not all osteo's do the deep tissue/massage work.

Bascially I think it is about finding an individual that you trust and is recommended.  

Abdominal pain

I know this is an old thread now but wondered whther you did have an ulcer and whether running aggravated it?

I think thats what i have (waiting for test results) but it flared up badly after a half marathon. Since then Ive been too ill to do much and am just starting running again - but wondered if its too soon. the doc seems to think it is ok?

How are you now?

Toe trouble

Shoes half a size bigger doesnt sound very much. The recommended  amount is at least a size bigger  than normaI believe.

I wear size 39 /40 (6.5) normal shoes - however my properly fitted running shoes are a 42.5 (8.5). For my last pair I went down to a size 42 - and have now lost all my big toenails so am going back to get some bigger ones again!. (yes I do look like I am wearing flippers - im not that tall!!)

If you haven been and had your running shoes fitted properly then I would do so - far more likely to be shoes than socks

Foot Pad 'Burning'

I have just started experiencing it = exactly as you describe. I am certain it is due to my shoes- since have just had new ones. I went down a half size in my new shoe and I think it must be that, there just isnt enough room. Im going to try and loosen the laces next time to see if that helps. If not Im going to ditch the shoes and get refitted.

 That said this doesnt seem compatible with Pingu above since im guessing you were not running a marathon in new shoes.

Knots in calves

Can you get hold of a foam roller (around £10). same effect as a tennis ball- but easier to use for larger areas. When rolling your calf over it  very slowly- rest the other leg on top of the lower one to provide more pressure. When you come across an extra sore bit- stay in that position for 10 secs or so (if you can bear it).

Do this daily and pretty soon you will get rid of the knots - you will know because suddenly using the roller wont be painful anymore. 

I use the roller everywhere at the first sign of a pain- and also weekly just to check all is ok (kind of preventative medicine). I find the tennis ball good for more specific areas - just above the knee/ hips etc.

Yes it hurts when there are knots but it is the way to solve it.

I see a running coach for weekly strenghtening exercises (after suffering many injuries!) - if sh finds a knot in my legs somewhere - she basically pushes down with her thumb really hard into my leg at the sore point to relieve the muscle!

Im obviously fretting about the most important thing for the ride on Sunday - food. Do I need to take loads with me or are there loads of places to stop en route to fill up.
