Yes, ANOTHER shoe question!

Posted: 01/02/2014 at 15:41

Indeed XX1, and I appreciate that's one reason most people don't feel they can really offer any advice.

Anyway, been to Simply Running in Hull today ( no Up & Running in Hull, nearest is actually York) and got great attention and advice from the owner, who is obviously a keen runner himself. Have got lovely shiny new Brooks Aduro, having had my gait checked ( pretty much what I already knew - neutral with only a hint of under pronation), and then tried on and compared several different makes & models of neutral shoes. These own hands down as they just felt "right" on my feet as soon as I put them on. Looking forward to getting back out there

Slightly disappointed that that the same shoes are £10 cheaper on the shop's own website though

Thanks Runnin man, they look just the job and even cheaper than the above!

Dave - I'd love to think that I would be pleasantly surprised to see that I'd run for miles but given that I'll be starting all over again, it more likely I'd be very disappointed!

Trogs - my optician offered me that option too but by then I'd had enough of the whole lens fiasco, sadly

Just found these recommended on a fell running forum - not too expensive to give a go - anybody tried them?

moomkin, contacts and me don't really get on unfortunately, the "varifocal" lenses I was given to try compromised my distance vision so much it wasn't worth the trade-off

Running with glasses (long sighted!)

There are a lot of threads re running with glasses by folks who are short sighted and need them to see where they're running etc, but I am long sighted and now without my glasses I can't read my watch / GPS, even with a big display. Has anyone found any glasses designed for running for long sighted peeps? My everyday varifocals would be  too annoying to run in, i.e. they would bounce and annoy my nose etc., if they actually stayed on at all.

Yellow, huh? So that's where I've been going wrong all these years!

Yeah, I know I need to get myself to an actual shop, just wanted some idea of what I might be looking for and therefore be able to look at potential price range before I went. Happy to pay for good shoes, but hate the thought of being talked into more expensive shoes than I really need!

Afternoon all. I am hoping to start running again soon, after 1.5 years out with plantar fasciitis, and am thinking I need some new shoes. I am a fairly neutral runner (very slight underpronator) with high arches. 5' 4" and 12.5 stone (so you know whether I'm heavy or light ) Ive read the neutral shoe reviews in the Gear section but it doesn't seem to be too up to date . My "nearest" running shops are Up & Running in Hull and Sweatshop in  Meadowhell (wasn't too impressed with them last time I was there).

All opinions / personal experience / advice gratefully received

Plantar fasciitis suddenly gone?

Thanks guys, have been observing how it feels in the morning, the usual pain and stiffness have definitely gone, so might try getting out for a talentless run tomorrow

Plantar fasciitis suddenly gone?

Those of you who have had PF in the past, did it just suddenly disappear or go away gradually? I've had PF since last June, quite badly. In the last couple of weeks I did start to think it was starting to get a little better, but this week it just seems (touch wood, not wanting to jinx anything) to have suddenly disappeared!

is this likely or am I being too hopeful?
