Has anyone run sub 3:00

Posted: 10/03/2010 at 09:40

OK, interesting reading guys.

I was merely specualting as this is entirely subjective and I've not run a marathon yet, however it's very interesting to read people's experiences on the matter.

My perspective on this was that running a 6:53 or faster over 26.2 miles puts a far greater level of stress on your body than a minute slower over a shorter distance. Surely you need to prepare your body for that in some way, although perhaps I'm underestimating the negative effects of doing full distance in training.

People alway say you don't need to run 26.2 miles to do a marathon, which I believe to be true.

If you're training to run a certain time, I think there's a lot to be said for having run the distance perviously. However, has anyone here run sub 3 hours the first time they've run a marathon, be it in training, competition or whatever?

It's a fast time, but I think that to run that fast over 26.2 miles, 99.9% of people need to have run marathon distance previously.

Garmin as well here.

I have happily run barefoot and would run in any old T-shirt or shorts. However I feel lost without that little thing telling me how far I've gone, how fast I'm going and all that other crap.

Regents Canal Camden Running?

Posted: 05/01/2010 at 13:01

Hi All,

Just started spending a bit of time in Camden, noticed the canal that runs through the town, is it possible to run along the tow path and if so, how far does it go? Also is it safe?

Any other suggestions for directions to head in, I noticed Regents Park down the road, but don't think that's huge, normally I'd be looking to do around 7 miles or so.

Apols for this, just I'm not that familiar with N London, especially on foot!

Sub 1.30 Half Marathon?

From my personal experience, I would suggest you get a good foundation of miles in, don't need to worry about speedwork too much to begin with, just get out there and do lots of runs. I go up to about 15 miles if I'm doing a HM, I feel training over distance suits me.

I'm interested in following this thread as I like the layout of the FIRST schedules and enjoy harder sessions, I really struggle with holding myself back on long runs.

Am taking things easy currently due to a niggling injury that should be gone in a couple of weeks, but think I will be using the HM one to train for a race in Feb

Anyone else have a problem with the word "race"

Posted: 21/10/2009 at 09:36

I get next to no nerves at running races, I'm competing against myself so why should I be nervous?

When I was younger I used to row, which is a different kettle of fish as we were lining up at the start of each race to beat everyone else, not just go quicker than our own last time. Lining up at the start of the national champs, Henley or some regatta in Europe sees you nearly taking a bite out of your seat.

The saving grace is that once you start, nerves disappear and before you know it you've finished.

My Last Run

Speaking from experience of my last few injuries, if you feel a niggle in or problem in a leg, don't push it, rest it. Maybe even go and see someone about it.

Building up strength is the important thing, I seem to get too caught up in going quickly which ends up leading to injury and don't focus enough on plodding away for miles, getting a really good foundation built up.
