Also I read that wearing the most expensive kit makes you faster , especially if the laces match . So there . Sorted innit .

...mile point for me as when I reach this feeling as good as I did I knew I was on the home straight, even with another 3 hours of running ahead of me .another plus point was my back ( taped heavily with kinesiology tape) wasn't giving me trouble . my mantra was keep moving , dont walk anything unless I have to.

Quads feeling a bit hammered now by over 7 hours of running and uphills, at this point the punishing descents begin too , hurting almost more than going up lol.

I reached Caterham in 8:24 - faster than last year. I was purposely going through aid stations as fast as I could ensuring my bottles filled and I grabbed food I needed- by this time it was salt, melon and tangerines -bliss!!

onwards to Botley hill at 43 miles, this is a punishing climb that goes on forever once you enter the woods. By this time I was running with an American man and we had banter that carried us through...slowly we got there, up ,up, up , some shade at least under the trees , and we were there ...at the last aid station at 43 miles...I think I remember looking at my watch and we had got there in under 10 hours . not long to go now....

The last part has a nice little stretch through pretty winding wood paths ( fabulous for tripping you up every 6 inches ) a twig at this point feels like trying to run over a log !! lol !! I did have to keep laughing at myself being clumsy and tripping over things like , stones, rocks, tree roots.....leaf.....gnat....micro organism ...

after the woods however comes more steps cut into the earth and into a tussock field which oh praise be -COWS.....GREAT !! NO!!!!!!! ARGH

so I curse , moan , rant , fortunately at this point I had company of Mr USA and 2 others - off you go then boys , move the herd...

so they did, and the cows left a lovely trail of dribble on the gate - fab

and so it went on, field *move cows* ....run on....field * move sharpish round cows/BULLS*...field, * shoo cows* run on .....*sigh* ...awful fields, all lumpy , and we kind of slowed to a run, walk , hobble as the gorund was uneven and I did warn the lads I didn't want cricked or broken ankles from with only 3 pigging miles to go !!!

so we managed to get through the silly fields, and......oh glory be ....the gate ...the gate to the road to the finish......nooooooo.... not yet .. more fields*curse swear drink rest of water* ....ok last field ..yes the gate , the gate , the gate , the gate, run 1 mile down road, turn left, we could hear clapping, cheering, up the road , incline...INCLINE ???!!WHAT? whos idea of a joke was that after 50 blimmin miles ?/?....turn left into the playing field...and UPHILL ????....ARGH... ok , drop the guys and sprint to the finish ....omg...omg...under 12 hours????? YES!!!!!!!!

WOHHOOOOOOO...11:47 thank you very much and Im done, medal , tshirt, n a cuppa and home

hello all !!! hope you are well , Matt ! how nice to hear from you ! omg , Abo seems soooooo long ago !! so amazing you are doing Tri now ! go you!!

MC that's fab to hear you have a new job and hols booked !!

franny sis, you iz fab ! a PB !!! So proud of you !! was it same medal as last year- is it the rudey one lol

so sorry I didn't get back on here after my race on 17th , was a manic week as miss LLBS birthday day before too and then we were packing for our holidays after my run event-chaos!

well my NDW50 ultra was an amazing day again for me, hot n sunny as I like it and perfect conditions ( for me anyway lol) . as my training is erm, *cough* *shuffles feet* a bit ad hoc I was really just aiming for a finish in the 13.5 hour cut off  and meeting the aid station cut off points along the way. I think a lot of people reviewed their aims and finish times pretty swiftly that morning as we started out with the sun already warm on us at 8am.

I took a little risk this year on my kit AND my fuelling (stupid maybe or just me being daring I don't know which - I was wearing a salomon pack - tested up to 25 miles, new salomon trainers- tested up to 25 also, these I was pretty confident with as used in training. Decided to throw in a new thing to try- flat coke.  mandatory kit dictates that one of the items we carry is 1litre of fluid on us at all times so I decided to have 500ml of water , and 500ml coke in the bottles at the front of my pack.  if it didbt work or made me burp (!!) then I decided id throw the coke and refill both with water -easy.

Most that know me on here know I like things simple, its just running, yes a long way , but still just running. yes I have a Garmin but I don't use routes or upload data, so long as I have my mileage , average pace and time then im happy. my only other aid as usual was the aid station mile points , 6.8 - 14.7 -24-31-38-43 and the finish at 50.8 written on a piece of sport tape stuck on my arm so I could see them coming up. this little thing is always a huge mental help to me.

by mile 24 which is at Boxhill the coke and water were going down well and I reached this point feeling good. Boxhill to Reigate is the stumbling block for a lot, its only a 7 mile stretch to the next checkpoint but on average it takes 2 hours because of the climbing and ascent. id reached Boxhill in under 5 hours and I knew the next bit was going to take a while.  Temperature was going up and as I started the climb up the huge boxhill steps I met a superrfit looking Aussie Tri guy coming DOWN the steps. I asked him if he was ok, he shook his head , said the heat had got him, was feeling sick, dizzy and was going back to the last aid station to pull out. I asked if he wanted to get to the top slowly with me and then see how he felt- nope- he wasn't having it . so I wished him well and on I went up, up.......and up..... hands on knees ....up !

Coke and water still going well and S-caps going in ok too plus power chews and some dried fruit etc . not enough food so I had the other half of bacon butty we had kindly been given at aid station at 12 miles!

Better..had gone through 2 litres of fluid by this point and ive never been so glad to see the white bridge rails at Reigate as I crossed it . id made it to Reigate in under 7 hours- so pleased. I knew a lot had started to drop at this point which spurred me on as I felt fine, legs a bit tired from the climbing but nothing wrong with me.

Next onward to Caterham, I like this aid station as the boys bring icecream  also its a kind of huge
