I did this few years back as my first ultra .. If it's anything like it was that year ( hottest June ever !) then I'd say just go with whatever is comfy be it road or trail shoes .
There are a lot of fields to go through , some are grassy , some were baked dry mud , road sections too connecting the off road parts , so a fair bit of Tarmac thrown in .
It's a really lovely route though , if you get a good sunny day the views & scenery will be great
