Stu/ Peter sorry to jump in but im on the same path so I thought you might be interested. I saw my doctor in march And got a consultant appointment in April. Was sent for xrays then an MRI which showed some mild cartridge damage and a misaligned patella. He tried a cortisone injection and referred me for Physio to try to rebuild my wasted muscles but the knee was too swollen to work with.  Went back to the consult and he confirmed surgery was my only option (Lateral release) He took a fair amount if fluid off to keep me mobile while I wait for a date -  nothing through yet but hopefully will be 'done' in September.    It feels like a lifetime that I've not been able to run or cycle.  Please keep posting as I would like to hear  how you both get on. Thanks

Arthroscopic Lateral Release of the Knee

Posted: 14/07/2014 at 22:39

My history for ref. knee was a but puffy during marathon training last autumn but not enough to cause any worries . Ran marathon in Jan without concern. Rested. Began training for a half in feb and it flared up Swollen sore and hot  Had X-ray and MRI which shows I have an odd shaped knee cap Which is not tracking properly. had an injection of  cortisone which gave temporary relief and prescribed Physio. physio had to discharge me after four weeks as it was too swollen to work with.  So here I am waiting for an op which is hopefully happening in late August.   I've tried all sorts to get some exercise but it just bites me on the bum the next day.

Marian I really hope it works out for you as I know how frustrating it is to feelyour fitness   draining away. Take care x

Arthroscopic Lateral Release of the Knee

I'm also scheduled to have a lateral release in August (assuming nhs doesn't change it) I've not run since reading half in march due to shooting pains and a constant dull ache in my right leg.  I had 6 weeks of Physio but there was no improvement so have been scheduled for arthroscopic surgery.                                                                                             Would be interested to hear how your op and recovery go sarahstar80. Wishing you good luck if it's imminent. X
