Day 1 Arrived a bit late but no panic. Picked up Wendy from first hotel as venue changed due to flood at normal lake. New lake 17 laps!!!! . It is also the lake I ran a terrible 4.28 at 3 weeks before but have lost half a stone since then. It helps. My plan on day 1 was simple run a 2 hour half marathon then run walk to the end. Make sure as soon as possible that a sub 4 WAS NOT ON. Was happy until mile 22 when started to struggle as already said slowest mile of the 4 days was mile 26 on day 1. Overall at the end felt ok although very wet and cold. WENDY had run a very easy 3.32 and had gone passed me twice. 4.13 was spot on for what I wanted. Back to hotel and went with the cold bath. Horrid but did help
Day 2 Plan now changed plod from the start a race against the virtual partner who was set for 4.30. Did not look at clock until very near the end. I found that after the first couple of miles legs started to feel ok but because of my pace cardio wise felt fine. Felt in control the whole way and finished feeling better than day 2 in 4.23 cold bath
Day 3 New ground for me as first triple . Best weather of the 3 although still blowing a gale. Similar to day 2 add another 15 minutes to target so now looking at 4.45. Same approach felt okish until about 18 when the energy just went swapped to run walk but with the support of others got there even pushing hard at the end to get under 4.30. 4.28 cold bath
Day 4 As some of you will have seen I just wanted to finish and not set a PW that was 4.38 set in a double last year. My other target was to beat London 2007 my first marathon every day so now a real race against my VP. It was not what I expected I ran nearly all of it very very slowly pulling away from my target time. cardio wise no issue as every mile was over 10mm so just the legs to worry about. So hard but job done.
Was it as special a feeling as comrades no but felt great. Only issue which I felt almost as soon as I finished was now what? Always a difficult one
Finally the evenings were fantastic. saw a presentation of a 100 club vest and just talked running all night. In that group I still feel a bit out of my depth but everyone is so nice and all made to feel welcome.
Today well not to bad do a have a niggle in my shin No S''t Sherlock which I started to feel on day 3 so going to fizz but a lot better than I expected Stair test walking up and down.
I no Ive been away for a long time and please don't think Im showing off but if helps others achieve their goals Im happy.
PS SJA I went sub 4 on my 5th attempt
