Yes we did change the course last year Andrew - and as you say it was much better than the first couple of years.

No Andrew, it's a god mix of Tarmac, trail and a small section on grass.

The Wenlock Olympian Society Marathon

We're in Wenlock this week finalising the route. It will be mainly off road and it will be challenging - but very scenic. We hope to be able to upload a route map for both races very shortly - and we'll post the link here.

Tissington Trail Half Marathon 2013

Posted: 07/10/2013 at 15:45

Hi All - thanks for all your support yesterday - I think we had a good race with perfect weather and some great performances. Results will be emailed to everybody tomorrow although they have been available online here since yesterday.

Couple of answers to points raised above.

We've had a couple of comments about the Mile 11 marker. Unfortunately, after we'd put the signage up on Saturday evening, some of the local youths thought they would help us remove them. Mile 11 disappeared completely and we discovered the Mile 13 marker in a stream beside the course.

Gaby W - if you're planning on doing the Causway Marathon the week before, you'll either fly down the Tissington Trail or you'll be on a stretcher! We were there last week and its a tough, tough - but fabulous - event.

McFlooze - the race most certainly is registered with the UKA and it carries a UKA licence. The distance cannot carry a certificate of course accuracy though because it is classed as a multi-terrain race as opposed to a road race.

Lilytoo - entries are open now for 2014 and will be available from our website later this week. All 2013 emtrants will receive priority notice about booking their places.

Sorry for the radio silence guys - we've had a few days away before the race week.

For your info, all race numbers and race instructions have been sent out to those who have entered and paid. If you have only recently paid because you've been on the waiting list then your number may still be en route.

A final race update, together with race instructions is being emailed out this afternoon.

We have had around 150 deferrals/transfers/name changes/withdarwals, but I think we're pretty much on top of the entry list now. If you havent received your number or a confirmation of entry, or you dont know where you're going then drop us an email.

For clarity, the race is a point to point race which means the race HQ is actually close to the finish. That means you can check in, pick up your timing chip and be transported to the start - you then run back to the finish, where you can collect baggage and be close to cars etc. Alternativley, you can make your way directly to the start - but there is no transport provided back to the start.

Its really important that we know whether you are joining us at the race HQ or the start - because that's where your timing chip will be available for collection.

If you need any more info then drop us a line:

The route is the same as last year and can be viewed on the website here (it has been there for some time)..

Mick - apologies if you got the impression we weren't interested - we certainly were/are and have made arrangements for a new number and chip for the other runner. Apologies too but the farm location for the start/finish doesnt allow for showers. Not sure what other information you require - if you feel that something is lacking from the race instructions we sent you, please let us know - we're always keen to improve.

The weather does look to be good for Monday and we look forward to welcoming you all.

Nottingham 5k Summer Series - the problem with anonymous reviews!

Posted: 26/07/2013 at 14:13

Hi Sussex Runner - yes it was a small field - its the first year for the series and although we had 35 pre-entered we only had 21 on the night. Unfortunately, we were forced out of the original location due to yobs disrupting the race and breaking windows on our vehicle (not the best of days!). We do expect the series to grow and match those we do elsewhere where we have entries of 100 plus on a regular basis. The parkrun events are distinct and, as we've said, we are supporters of parkrun events. We feel though that our evening series are opportunities to get a timed, and in most cases accurately measured, 5k race with the usual race mementos such as medals and prizes. Those we do elsewhere are really popular - even in locations where they have a parkrun.

The comments are even more puzzling because we had four really complimentary emails from runners who took part - these arrived before the reviews were posted.

Whilst it is easy just to ignore such reviews we still feel them!

Never mind - onwards and upwards!

Nottingham 5k Summer Series - the problem with anonymous reviews!

As Race Director, this is a first for me - but I'd advise caution when considering the three reviews of this event. Two of the three reviewers have now changed their online user names since publishing their very negative reviews and I'll be honest - I am bemused and just don't understand what is going on!

We welcome feedback on any race we are involved in and will always listen to constructive criticism - but the views expressed in the ratings for this event just don't match the feedback we have received directly from some of the participants. We have written testimonials from runners who took part and they are completely opposite to the negative reviews posted.

The online reviewers are entitled to an opinion but the three reviews posted are all remarkably similar in content and in scoring.

For the record, the entry numbers for the races are low but growing; we were forced to move to a new location due to anti social behaviour; the entry fee is just £8 for advance entries; the race is marshalled, timed and, in addition to medals for all there are prizes for leading runners and age group winners. The race takes place on hard track (50%) and road (50%). We are active suporters of parkrun and this race sits comfortably alongside parkrun as an evening timed race. The event carries a UKA licence and the planning and execution of the race meets all UKA licence standards.

Its disappointing when we're forced to be so defensive - but our view (shared by other participants) is that the reviews posted are not an accurate reflection of the race experience of those taking part (the three reviewers excepted of course).
