Sub 3 hour marathon just didn't happen

Posted: Today at 12:14
In 2010 I was struggling to go under 3.30.
Looking back I was trying to run every long run at 8 min miles which was doable but also left me too tired in the week to do any decent sessions.
Now my long runs are run at around 8.30 - 8.45 which enables me to complete the hard sessions in the week and take another 30 mins off my PB in 3 years.

24 miles at 7.16 is not really a comfortable pace, its your marathon PB pace. Sounds like you did your race in training. How long out from the race was this long run?

It is a guaranteed place. The only problem is sometimes they change the qualifying criteria after the ballot date. Are you comfortably under the time?
Lady year they changed the make under 40 from 3.10 to 3.05 without any notice and after the ballot had been closed.

London Marathon Cheat?

I'm amused at the belief that cheating in sport is now classed as a "silly mistake"

What's next? GBH being classed as "just got a bit out of hand?"

Not those. I have the adios which are fine.
I think Philomenas pretty fair, a subtle difference in shoes will not make up for a lack of training.

Maybe when he got on the tube he makes the mistake many of us have done and was on the wrong platform and ended up in Cockfosters.

Charming, I wonder if there will be a proper investigation into this?

Any advice views and help.

It took me 18 months to go from 3.19 to 2.58.
Moving from 4 times a week ave 35-40 miles a week up to 6 times a week av 50-55 miles a week which was built up very slowly and with a proper structure.

I think you should try for a 3.10 in the autumn and then progress from there.

Post Marathon after VLM on Sunday

Just to add, 25 miles a week is around 50% of my usual mileage so I'm not suggesting doing 25 miles a week for everyone.

Well fine on the race Pipski.
As you were suffering with injuries you should build yourself back up very slowly.
My plan, after no injuries, is to do no running until after Easter (4 miles of dog walking a day thought) and then start running 4 times a week (max 25 miles) for 3 weeks and then start building things up again.
