Liverpool Rock 'n Roll Marathon

Posted: 08/11/2013 at 09:33

@Bev - use the filter above the map to change to Marathon course. Its not 2 loops.

I'm in for this, course looks pretty decent, although they seem to have kept the mentally tough part of Sefton Park late in the course as per the previous marathon!

Does the half seem to be the same course as the standard Liverpool half? Been a while since I ran it.

Just to save raising anybodies hopes - my marathon place has just gone.

Still 2 nights available in a Travelodge though...

Is anybody looking for a place for this? (Un)Fortunately due to my wifes due date I'm out so happy to do an official transfer.

I've also got 2 nights book at a Travelodge about 6 miles away that could transferred.

If interested probably best to email me - greg_bowie AT yahoo.co.uk

Best of luck to everyone - hope the training is going well!

MA- hi! General rule of thumb is to allow an extra 10-20 mins

Do you not mean 100-200 mins Jason...?!

Lemmy - thanks for the heads up for Travelodge. Booked it up for me and my running buddy.

Got back to training this week after a lazy xmas (and very lazy lead up to xmas!). Might be pushing a bit too hard in my new found enthusiasm so better back it off a little tomorrow. Local off-road 5k on Saturday morning to look forward to.

Nice one Elli - think you're lucky having hills on your doorstep! I've also got a hilly half lined up for February (well, as hilly as it gets round these parts at any rate!). Plenty of hill reps sessions for me coming up. Loch Ness is another one on my list - that'll have to wait until 2014 tho.

Thanks for the info Jason. See how training progresses, but think I'll aim to be PB here then, by a matter of minutes, to hopefully set myself up for nice Spring marathon in 2014! Almost sounds like a plan...

Hangover isn't as bad as expected. Hello everybody and Happy New Year!

Been wanting to do this race for ages, but the hills have always put me off - especially being from part of the country not known for its inclines! (Hertfordshire) I guess this year will be the year that I learn to love the hills

Interval session done on the turbo this morning, got an interval run session planned for tonight at some point.

And as for a finishing time I've no idea - those with experience, how does the route affect times in comparison to 'flatter' marathons? My PB is 3:56 at Edinburgh, but halves since them seem to indicate I could push towards 3:30 / 3:40 kind of timings...

Entry done. Will introduce myself tomorrow (hangover dependent!)

Training for a shorter Tri

Posted: 19/07/2012 at 14:50

My biggest improvement to date in running came from lots and lots of Z1 and Z2 running. Managed to take an hour of my marathon time by pretty much following a plan that was built around that (Admittedly it threw in a bit of speedwork in the final 8 weeks), but it was that base that was key.

Now I'm trying to remember what the faster stuff is like....

Rafi - Great advice as per usual. Just wondering if skipping work in favour of 'training' is recommended or over-training?
