Abingdon Marathon 2015

Posted: 04/04/2015 at 09:38
Morning folks! Just got my entry in, and was kinda expecting it to have been full by now so really chuffed!
Will be my 4th Abingdon but first marathon since September 2012 due to injury. Really can't wait, training is finally falling Into shape and have a half booked for mid May which I'm on track for.
Feeling good for the first time in ages!! ????

Reassurance required re future back surgery please!

I have suffered with spinal stenosis, narrowing of the sponal column. And also degenerative disk disease. Came on last summer, and as a 39 marathon and 9 ultra runner the lack of activity due to pain was incredibly frustrating. I had constant dull pain and most mornings had to lift my legs out of bed in order to get going. I looked and sounded like a 90 year old!
I decided to go for the surgery at the end of may this year and it's been a complete success. I had a fantastic surgeon from Egypt and he has worked wonders. In now pain free, getting fitter and am back running around 2-3 miles.
I opted for Cofex implants. google them, and see what you think.....
Best of luck and so what you think is best for you. I did and the results have been amazing! ????

Thanks wabi! I've been absent from the forums fit a long time, but do I recognise you from the Snod forum a few years back?
Maybe I see myself as a 'runner' again so I'm back!

Thanks alehouse. Very wise words well received!
I've been very good and am taking things very slowly.

Spinal fusion

Posted: 23/07/2014 at 08:16
Hi Paul, I'm 7 weeks post surgery following a similar problem. However as an alternative to fusion my consultant fitted 'cofex' supports to my L3/4 and L4/5 disks which were all badly degenerated. These titanium supports are amazing, but I guess it depends on how had your disks have become. I'm now fighting for again, using a cross trainer happily for an hour a day and very much Looking forward to getting back to running.
Could be worth mentioning them to your surgeon as an alternative? I'm no expert of course and can only go what my surgeon said, but they seem to be something that is used for the more active patient! Good luck!

Returning after back injury

Ahhh Claire I have been exactly there. I'm now 7 weeks post surgery and still can't run but am able to be more active. I put a lot of weight on whilst I couldn't exercise, similarly due to comfort eating and also cos my metabolism just seemed to just come to a grinding that. Il be able to use a cross trainer soon so I'm focussing on taking things slowly and building my fitness back up and hopefully starting to she'd some weight.
What's the current situation with your treatment?
