Returning after back injury

Posted: 18/07/2014 at 20:42
Ahhh Claire I have been exactly there. I'm now 7 weeks post surgery and still can't run but am able to be more active. I put a lot of weight on whilst I couldn't exercise, similarly due to comfort eating and also cos my metabolism just seemed to just come to a grinding that. Il be able to use a cross trainer soon so I'm focussing on taking things slowly and building my fitness back up and hopefully starting to she'd some weight.
What's the current situation with your treatment?

Good to hear from you Claire. I'm so glad that you're back running! All is good this end, physio happy and I head off for a two week stay at a rehab hospital (through work) a week Monday so I'm hoping they're gonna work wonders! Initially estimated that il be running 9 months ish after surgery but I reckon it may be sooner. But little steps they say, I'm only 35 so plenty of years running left in these legs I think! ????

For a minute I wondered what sort of forum this was when I caught up and people were discussing playing with willies! Ahh the joys of predictive type eh?!
My surgery was insertion of two cofex devices - small blue titanium spacer brackets to combat spinal stenosis. It's basically the narrowing of the spinal canal which in turn causes inflammation, nerve issues and then horrid numbness and spasming right through the glutes, hamstrings and calves. Amazing being sat there and then allmodna sudden your leg kicks up like john Cleese doing a funny walk!!
I've had bone and ligament shaved away and the brackets fitted which ensures equal space so no more nasty sensations etc.
Was really excited to being home a DVD of my X-rays just before discharge but gutted to find that the disks are bloody blank!! Never mind, would like to see how it all looks though cos it's clever stuff!

Barcelona half sounds absolutely amazing atvthe minute, thats two things I'm craving... Sunshine and running! Cel a vie, plenty of time for that caper when I can start running again in 9 whole months!! ????
Hope everybody is well, it's gonna take me a while to remember who is who no doubt!

Hiya folks, how are we getting on? I'm 24 hrs out of spinal surgery now having had inter laminar spacers inserted at both L3/4 & L4/5 disks. Incredibly sore and stiff but fingers crossed my problems are behind me and I can now start the very slow process of recovery and back to full strength.

Hope others conditions are easier cos it's a bloody frustrating time I know!

Morning folks! Well after a year injured I am now 24 hours post spinal surgery so I'm officially back in the beginner and taking things very slowly category!

Im literally going to be starting from scratch as of today but just the fact that I can now start to recover and build up my strength slowly is making me smile!

im hoping having somewhere to contribute and share my progress is going to be motivating for me as I'm desperate to get my mind back into running/fitness and generally being slowly active again! ????

Have been on the injury bench for the last 5 months with two prolapsed disks on my back and this is the last 'proper' even I did.
Gutted I'm not happily training with with this to look forward to, I think it's time to sign up as a check point soup pourer and 3am arse kicker!

Well... The results are in! My S2, L5,L4 and L3 are all degenerated and dehydrated. Also have spinal stenosis. Osteopath appointment tomorrow to translate it all into English as here other things mentioned which I don't quite understand!
Has anyone had any experience of injections? Either anti inflammatory or pain relief? It may be something I enquire about tomorrow cos I'm really struggling at the moment, the only pain free position is laying on my front resting on my elbows!
