Gait analysis, as waste of time?

Best thread ever...

Gait analysis, a waste of time?

no - if done correctly with all the correct "chat"

best PLACEBO ever for avoiding injuries.

Gait analysis, as waste of time?

You go to a running store to buy a shoe (as opposed to online) so you get one that fits right - that's vital.

The gait analysis bit is an added placebo effect to make believe you have been sold the best shoe for your running style.

That bit is important so that when you then inevitably go out and overdo it and get some sort of pain/injury, you don’t then immediately blame the shoe.

Mizuno Breath Thermo

What i actually want to know is what creates the heat or where it comes from?

Heat is energy - you can change energy from one form to another - but creating it takes some kind of nuclear reaction doesn't it?

So where does the heat (energy) come from?

It's supposed to never wear out.

Have Mizuno solved the world's energy crisis?

Is this product the cure to global warming?

I need answers.

So there's this free sample thing in the magazine and an associated RW Promotion feature on pages 82 & 83 of the new issue of Runner's World.

Some Breath Thermo yarn from Mizuno - add a few drops of water (provided!) and the yarn gets hot.

It really does!

And the application of this... making apparel that, when you start sweating, HEATS UP!

"Breath Thermo technology reacts with perspiration to generate heat..."

"Drawing on Mizuno's 100 years of sports technology expertise, the Breath Thermo fabric works by taking advantage of the moisture produced when you perspire. It .... then uses the water vapour to activate heat-generating fibres in the fabric."

Now hang on... why do we sweat in the first place?

It's the body's way of trying to cool itself when it overheats - so why do we then want to be made to get even hotter?

Someone explain this to me like I'm an idiot.

Thanks.

First ever pair of running shoes and they causing pain

Starting on a running program is what is a minefield - getting your body to do something fairly stressfull and new on a regular basis will often cause problems - irrespective of what shoes you're wearing.

Or, if you like the Nike feel, the Lunar Eclipse is your next best bet (like Martenkay says).

You're not wrong WRFC (if I can call you that).

The Structure 17 comes out around 1st Oct and is supposed to be better - but they would say that.

IMO the Asics GT-2000 is closer to the Structure than the Kayano (more stable than the 2000 IMO). The 2000 is widely available in a wider 2E fit.

My breathing restricts my running

Don't panic LBob2, the problem you are experiencing is exactly the same as every other human being on the planet.

It is precisely your breathing - aerobic/anaerobic threshold - cardiovascular fitness etc that will limit your distance running ability.

Run more and it will improve.

Call me crazy - but aren't your money and efforts better off spent sorting out the cause rather than the effect?

Brooks Ghost 5 and 6, your experiences, is it a neutral shoe?

Posted: 27/06/2013 at 00:30

Generally these days, shoes with medial posts are classed as STABILITY and those without classed as NEUTRAL.

But all shoes have some level of stability.

I know that some well built 'neutral' shoes are actually more stable than some cheap 'stability' shoes.

The Pegasus is probably one of the most flexible/least stable neutral options out there right now - and the Ghost is one of those quite stable neutral shoes.

So there could be as much of a stability difference as with a 'mild' stability and 'moderate/strong' stability shoe - and generally people wouldn't advise that kind of stability change if your current (stability) level seems to be working for you.

So maybe don't go for the Ghost.

I'm a bit out of touch lately so aren't sure what a Pegasus equivalent might be these days (Mizuno Wave Rider maybe?).

That's when your friendly local specialist running shop comes in.

Use them or lose them.
