Outlaw or Ironman Bolton??

Posted: Yesterday at 10:22

If this really truly is your last Iron distance, do Bolton. Seriously.

The bike at Bolton changed this year to two laps not three (so only twice up Sheephouse but there's another nice hill as well now!) but it's not a fast course. Decent fast-ish riders about 5:15-5:30 last year (and not very many of them at that pace).

The run has also changed but still is undulating.

Funkin wouldn't do Outlaw again (unless he was just doing the bike in a relay he says) but he might do Bolton again in a couple of years. This year was Nice and then (fingers crossed) Tenby in a couple of weeks.

The MDot medals are much nicer too IMHO

Well, Joddly, I think D is implementing the Martin Yelling inverse taper at this point He was always going to Epic Camp for the experience, never out to be at the top (which is good as he's at the back of the pack there) - but there's a few of them who are riding and running together, which is good. I can't really speak to him much, yesterday was 190k plus the run and swim - and I think he's the only one that has a race very soon after returning (he's back on 1st Sept), so he's keeping a bit of a lid on it. After today he's halfway though, which is good for the head I think.

I am super excited to see everyone

Seren! I didn't know you were going. Yay! And Pingu too! Double yay!

As for everyone else...triple yay!

Currently funkin is punishing himself in Canada on Epic Camp, hopefully by the time he gets to Tenby, his legs will barely bat an eyelid at the hills there...

Well, that sailing was a little fraught with travel issues wasn't it? Finally home...!

Still fecking orsum though Thanks to my fellow Sherpas for a super day on Sunday and thanks to all of you racers (who are clearly mad in the head!) who make it possible for us to have an excuse to stand by the side of the road and cheer on. You are amazing. To even get to the start line is a huge thing - and watching your efforts fills me with pride. One of my favourite places is the IM finish line.

Funkin is in the middle of a race report, which was started during the 3 hour flight delay yesterday...he may be some time!

Recover well everyone.

We have arrived after a small delay taking off (from Gatwick, first flight of day), then a longer flight due to avoiding French air space by going over Italy, Germany and Belgium. Apartment all good. Had crepe with butterscotch sauce

Sadly fly our bag didn't arrive but the bike has other bag should come later. Travelling wasn't half as bad as I thought it was going to be, even with a bag that was still in Gatwick

Travel safely all.
