Pirate outings in 2014

Think it's more like 200 miles from Copenhagen to Kalmar by road. I visit a factory in Ahus fairly regularly, which is about half way between Copenhagen and Kalmar. No idea if there's a train. It's mostly single carriageway after you get into Sweden and it can be fairly slow going.

The hotel I usually stay in is around £120/night with breakfast and dinner and is nothing special. I think beers are around Kr50-60 for a half litre, so 5 or 6 quid. I'll do a more extensive study next time I go.

 Absolut Vodka is local though

Totals
A bit of everything.

Highlights
The Outlaw. What a great day
PBs galore.

Lowlights
Bike crash in Feb that I thought had ended my Outlaw chances.
Getting up on the morning of the Marshman and seeing the weather.
Motivation being very patchy since Outlaw.

2013
Arse back into gear and do some racing.

Is triathlon a fleeting obsession on a personal agenda?

Posted: 16/10/2012 at 08:24

Interesting topic. I think that there will inevitably be a decline in triathlon at some point. Other sports that have gone through the same rapid boom have gone backwards eventually. Golf in the 80's had a similar level of, for want of a better word, "fashionability", and the proliferation of golf courses and popularity during that time is starting to reverse. There will no doubt be another "fastest growing sport in the World" along at some point.

For me, what Dreaming of Magic said is about right. Triathlon allows me to mix up my training, and as someone who gets easily bored with doing one thing that's the biggest bonus. If I'm honest with myself I only race to give me a target to train towards.

HI all,

Back again!

Nice one Suzanne  . A half marathon is an achievement to be proud of.

Welcome JH. This thread has been a bit quiet recently.Very sensible, steady targets. Good luck with them.

Slowly getting motivated and fit again. 9 mile run yesterday at a  very sedate pace, then ride to work this morning with a puncture at almost exactly the midpoint of the commute. Snapped a tyre lever changing the tube and had to phone home for rescuing. Mrs NV was not best pleased!

TI weekend course

Posted: 27/09/2012 at 14:56

I did a series of about 8 TI lessons of 1 hour each, and went from pretty much non-swimmer to swimming 2 miles in about 10 weeks. Never did much for my speed and I could probably do with going back for another course of lessons. I reckon the weekend one would be great.

I'd second what WW said about control and balance.
