Tapering with an injury.

Posted: 21/04/2016 at 11:57

Thanks for that. I have been doing an average of 42mpw. My goals are modest, sub 4 is my aim. I have done many marathons, my recent times have been around 3:50. But I should mention I'm seventy. Cross training sounds as if it might be the best option.

I have done all the hard work in preparation for a marathon, in three weeks time, but have developed plantar fascitis. My last three long runs have been 20, 21 and 22 miles. I am wondering if I should  simply stop all running until the marathon, do a modified taper leading up to the race or withdraw from the race. Has anybody any suggestions or ideas as to the best way forward?

I am due to run the Prague marathon in under three weeks time. I have done all the hard work ie. my last three long runs were 20, 21 and 22. Unfortunately, I have developed plantar fasciitis (I'm pretty sure that's what it is, as I have had it once before). As a result it will be difficult for me taper as I had planned. I'm now wondering if I should rest completely until the race day or attempt a taper of some type or whether to run it at all. How much fitness am I likely to lose if I do no running  between now and the race? Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Only six weeks now to Prague. Anybody got any tips or information they would like to share? Eg  best transport from airport to city centre, marathon route, training etc.

There doesn't seem to be too much information out there about the Prague Marathon, any information would be helpful.

Thanks for that chicksta. I've entered now so I'm going to have to live with my decision. Disappointed that its not as fast as its made out to be and I HATE cobbles.

For anyone interested in entering, entries are now open. But make sure you tick the shirt box options or you will not be able to pay for your entry! Its easily overlooked. You don't have to buy a shirt if you don't want one, but you do have to tick the box that says you don't want one. If that makes sense.

Hi, I emailed the organiser about the date for next year's marathon. It is the 8th May 2016. Registration will be possible later this month they tell me. The website is not yet up and running. I have already found and booked accommodation right at the start/finish of the route. I guess because registration is not yet possible I got a great choice of accommodation. If you email the organisers they are very helpful.

If anybody can give me any up to date information about the route I'd be grateful eg. pb potential etc.

I hope that helps.

Could anyone who has done the Prague Marathon recently answer the following questions for me:

Is it a flat/fast course? Has the course got PB potential?

Is much of the route over cobbles?

Can you recommend a hotel close to the start that is not too expensive?

Would you do the marathon again?

Any other information would be helpful.

I want to do a fast UK marathon in the Autumn(2016). I am considering Abingdon or the Yorkshire Marathon. Can anybody who has done these marathons tell me which is most likely to give me the best chance of a PB and why. Thanks.

I've used pace wristbands and found them really helpful. Whenever I've attempted to follow a pacer I've found it very congested with other runners doing the same thing and I never found the pace quite suited me.It seemed that I was constantly adjusting my pace. But clearly many people like running with a pacer. If it were me in your position I would go for your sub 4 and hang on as long as you can. Be positive and believe in yourself.
