Lucky you Sparky.  I like the trains and used to use the Severn Beach line loads when I lived in Easton.  I live in Henleaze now so only one bus which never turns up and nowhere near a train station.  BF is in Henbury and it was the No 1 which didn't turn up last night.

Yup - hope to see you at Mike's soon.  I'm lucky to live right by Henleaze Lake, so train there in the week.

They are the worst in the UK surely Durham?  Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience.  The people who have to use them regularly must find it so soul-destroying/anger-inducing.

Sparks; I train in North Bristol, South Glos & Wales for running & cycling + also:

Henbury, Horfield and Kingsdown sports centres for strength, spinning, core, swim

Henleaze Lake and Mike's lake for outdoor swimming

I've got to do (my own) Oly this weekend according to my training schedule.  Any others following Don Fink?

After an unplanned 5 mile walk home from work last night followed by having to collect my bike to cycle to meet my running partner (again unplanned), I've realised that I can't rely on Bristol buses so will always turn up to training sessions either warmed-up or a bit tired depending on where I am in my training.  Used my anger at the motherfuckin' buses not turning up to get me through the intervals.

Thanks Scuba.  I went to Bike UK near where I work last night and the assistant said she'd check out my current shoes for correct fit and wear first before looking at new shoes.  (I buy most of my kit there anyway.)

I did tell the BF he couldn't wear the cap for races but maybe he wants it for ID purposes when we get to Outlaw camp.   ... and also we can be matching in the lakes we swim in.  Which leads me on to another question:

From next week I'll just be training in lakes as my swim sessions.  Any tips for adjusting Don Fink sessions to a lake?  One lake has 800m laps and t'other 240m laps.  I'll be using the small lake in the week as it's a minute's walk from my flat.  The big one at weekends for a long swim.

I've had an annoying setback.  I've lost my Polar watch which goes with the heart rate monitor - have had it years.  Tried everywhere I train - 3 gyms/pools and a lake.  I'm on a shoestring, so a bit pissed off but there you go.  Credit card out to get another one.  I've also lost a sports bra and a USB bike light charger.  I guess that's what happens when you train all over the place and feel like you're living out of panniers.

I also have to get new bike shoes.  I've got a pair at the mo' which make my feet numb, so would the panel recommend getting a half size up from normal to allow for expanding feet over long distance?  (I use SPDs.)

Another question, BF would like a pirate swim cap for Outlaw.  What's the best way to order one please folks?

The wind travelling over the bars made a whistling noise the whole time I was out too.

Hi Mouse - thanks for your offer but as BF has given me his old ones; I'll see how I get on.

Coop - it was really windy when I went out so I didn't get on the bars really.  Just tried them for a straight bit of road with tall hedges.  I was getting buffeted around a lot and didn't have an enjoyable ride.  Spoke to a couple of riders who said they didn't get on their bars much on Sunday due to the wind.

Had my bike fit and BF gave me his old tri bars to try, so I've got those on the bike at the mo', thanks Mouse.  This weekend will be my first foray into aero bars.  Got lots of tips from the fitter who is also a physio.  Happy bunny.

Thanks Mouse - that's really good to know.  I was lent a set some time back but they weren't jammers.  I'd love to try yours and could pop round and collect.  If you're still in the same place, I'm working about 10 mins walk away.

Thanks folks.  Joe - I'm going to a bike shop on Monday so will see if I'm able to try anything out there.  I'm being fitted on Thursday but not at a bike shop.  I also need to get new pedals as when I first got my bike and being a complete novice, I ended up with touring pedals.  (I use SPDs.)  I'm not really set on using tri bars but we'll see how I get on.
