The measurements were appalling. Some were out by a half-mile, and other less. One pair were 0.74 miles apart. At the 26-mile marker (which was actually 26.2 per my Garmin), there was a further half mile to the finish.
The mud slides were also totally unnecessary on a race of this distance. I added 2 hours to my recent times simply because some of the muddy hills took 25-30 minutes per mile to climb up while holding onto tree branches, which is double normal walking speed.
The good bits, however, included a very high standard of people doing the marshalling and manning the drink stations. They were all, without exception, extremely encouraging and very friendly. There were plenty of liquids, and also snacks for those who wanted them. The course was well marked along its length.
Let's hope the organisers learn from today.
