About me:http://www.justgiving.com/simonargent (my charity page) For many years I have shirked the idea of physical exercise. Instead I indulged in other not so healthy vices however, a few years ago, I decided that I would love to be able to complete a Marathon, but I knew that this wasn't something that would easily be achieved. Before starting anything, I thought that getting to a level of fitness would be an important goal - at the time I didn't realise I was avoiding going out... Wii Fit was an innovative 'game' designed to help shed the pounds, so this was my first step. It also proved to be fairly useless as I quickly discovered. Deciding that I had reached a level of fitness, I went out for my first run. I thought a couple of laps around the block would be a good start. 7 minutes later, I was back home and just about ready to die. I collapsed on the couch (my legs physically couldn't support me). I struggled to breathe and I remained that way for at least half an hour. So, Wii Fit was out and another Wii Game was in. This time it was EA Sports Active which actually seemed to do something. I could feel my fitness levels improving and I knew that I would soon be ready to take the next step. Unfortunately, about a month in, I went on holiday and got back into the old regime of eating and drinking too much and not doing any exercise. I was back to square one... Having tried various methods of keeping fit, I realised that all I was really doing was avoiding leaving the house. So, I decided that the only way I was going to get out and do a run was to get out and do a run. But, I knew that I wasn't going to be able to just run so I read up and found a training regime called 'From Couch to 5k'. This was a great programme and helped me build up the endurance and stamina to run without wanting to die. I have now been running for little under a year and during this time, I have entered my first timed race which was a local 5k Park Run. More recently, N
